I want OU to blow out FSU the next 2 games so we can make the arguement we're the 2nd best team in the nation

Pretty sure you are correct. FSU can do it as well.

Yeah, Ok State beat them 6-4 then lost a couple pretty close ones for their three regular season games but then they got run ruled in their conference tournament. Georgia was the only other team to beat them and they got run ruled immediately after.

My *guess* is if OU wins out, we would be ranked #3 in the final poll, and if FSU wins out, we will be #4.
Will be interesting to see how similar or different this poll behaves compared to the way FCS media polls operate. Will we start the season as a top 5 and stay there until we lose a game? Or will SOS impact the softball poll and cause us to drop?
Either way, with a good regular season, would think we are in a good place to host a super regional next year.

No, and yes. JMU will not start the next softball season ranked 5th. JMU may well be ranked, but it won’t be top 10, perhaps not even top 20.
And yes, JMU’s SOS will impact initial rankings, as will the number of graduations. JMU will have to prove the new team has replaced the graduating talent.
Lastly, hosting a Regional, or ultimately Super Regional would require that JMU is ranked in the top 10. It’s way too early to anticipate that being in place.

Can we please enjoy the success of this year and celebrate the accomplishments of this wonderful group of women before we start jockeying for ranking position for something that will not happen for several months??

I'd imagine interest in upcoming softball seasons is one of the top things the team would hope comes out of this run.

I would recruit interest would probably be 1 with fan support 2. Fan support has been gradually increasing, but now should explode. I am just hoping that we can still keep many of the bandwagon fans that jumped on this year.
The next test may be even harder: proving that this year was no fluke.

I mean, there's only so much anyone could say it was a fluke...making it to 3 of the last 5 supers and losing to the eventual national champion at least last time if not this time also. However, we're replacing almost our entire team next year, so I'd be surprised if we started top 15. Being inside the top 25 will just be out of respect for this year, honestly.
For pitching, Humphrey looked like the real deal. I wish she had one more year before she needed to be the star, but she did look very good this year. I'm not sure if there's a #2 that's coming in or redshirting this year that can be a close #2 next year (anyone know how good Wells and Smith are?). Maybe Bermudez can improve a bit over the offseason and remain the backup for Humphrey. We also might pick up a transfer who wants to be part of this team.
A little more worried about our batting/fielding. We're going to lose basically our entire starting lineup (#1-6, plus #9). If what I'm seeing from senior tributes is correct, the only fielders from the WCWS remaining will be Bernett © and Shifflet (1B). Is that correct? Looks like the R-Jrs have graduated and are moving on also.

I saw that North Texas pitcher who threw an immaculate game (0 hits, 0 walks, 21ks) entered the transfer portal. Played in a weaker conference but who knows.

Is there a link to the transfer portal anywhere? Thanks.
Also, I know we lose Alexander, Gordon, Naujokas, Meeks and Jubas but what about Logan Newton? She has one more year, right?
Definitely hope we take advantage of the recent success and hammer the transfer portal for talent.

I kept lurking the Tennessee and Mizzou boards, been interesting to see their perspective on our team, LaPorte, and everything. The Tennessee board especially, both because Mizzou has the worst layout I've ever seen for a message board in my life and because it seems like a lot of people that really know their softball on the Tennessee board.
Saw someone post this there. Sure not a lot of non-P5 commits on that list, and only one Virginia school:

Logan and Sullivan were also in the senior thank you post on Twitter. I think technically most of them have another year of eligibility, but are choosing to finish this year. At least the roster listed Newton, Sullivan, Meeks, and Jubas as juniors.

Suspect there are fewer transfers and players who elect to play beyond graduation due to there being fairly limited pro opportunities for this sport. The vast majority of players likely play for the education/diploma and enjoyment/pride. It is more student-athlete oriented than revenue sports.
There is technically a pro league, but it currently consists of 5 teams, and they canceled 2020/2021 due to covid.

Yeah, I thought everyone got an extra year if they wanted it. I guess our players just don't want it.

Another big factor besides pro potential is scholarships. You get 12 scholarships to divide up, a lot more reason not to come back if you aren't getting a full scholarship.

OU was down 2-1 in the top of the 6th in game 2....And then the giant was unleashed. Now up 5-2 (and left the bases loaded too)- headed to bottom of the 6th.

NCAA allows extra year players to be provided other financial aid equivalent to a scholarship. Don't have to divy up total schollies at all. Not a factor.

I might be missing something but I believe it still is a factor. If a football player is on a full ride, there is no cash outlay difference if they play 4 years or 5 years, as there is no cash outlay at all. However, if a softball player is on a partial than they have already had 4 years of cash outlays and an additional 5th year would be another cash outlay. It doesn't matter that the NCAA is truing it back up at that partial scholarship level, they are still paying some amount of tuition (while putting off a paid job for 12 months versus say 6 with a football player graduating in December after the season).
Now if all of the RS-Jr were on full ride, then yeah I agree the tuition component for 2022 season wouldn't be a factor, but I have to assume that they are not all on full scholarship and I have to assume that the NCAA isn't just turning everyone that comes back into a full scholarship athlete.

"East vs West" is a little misleading, might as well just call that game Cali versus everyone else. 15 of 40 participants from CA.
