If I'm not mistaken, Phelps and Eddington were both coming back as medical redshirts. Now both are off the roster. Did something go wrong in the process?
Maybe the NCAA denied the exemption
Ty Eddington is grad transferring to Youngstown State per his twitter.
That's interesting.
Youngstown State? Yikes. I think they are FCS. Hoping this has something to do with being closer to family maybe. If it was because of competition, then so be it and good luck to the man.

Zack Conti 6'6 300 R-Fr
Rafe Reyes 6'2 270 So
Lucas Tesznar 6'5 300 R-Fr.
Newcomers:
PJ Ross 6'4 255 Fr.
Coleon Smith 6'6 320 Fr.
Jason Eaton 6'7 350 Fr.
walkons
Daniel Greene 6'4 320 Fr
Evan Egan 6'8 345 Fr.
Smith and Eaton may be talented enough for one of them to start but more likely redshirted. We are seeing a talent assembly line where talented frosh are redshirted and then progress.
Really like this group in 2020. Much improved. With a new QB this year the reliance on an Oline will be big to keep him upright and give time. This looks like the most depth we have had in a while. Van Hoeven and Donnelon will be great and I really like Howie and Raceley coming up. Dooley could end up being a 4 year starter when all is done and if he packs on 15lbs more he could get pro looks. Super excited to see how these guys compete and who comes out starting.
Dooley's been working hard on the weights and the diet. Talked to him this morning and he's weighing in at 303. Hasn't slowed down any.
Evan Egan is leaving the program.

It's my understanding he wants to focus on his studies and has decided not to play college ball.
I went through a similar situation with my oldest son. He had the opportunity to play college ball and halfway through his senior year in high school made the decision to focus on schooling rather than play ball. He's entering his third year of law school now.
I have to respect a young man who can make a decision like that, especially when other's expectations for him (especially parents') might be completely different.

A season preview...
https://collegefootballnews.com/2020/07/...gan-eagles
FYI, when you get to the last page they have an over/under for the win total but they don't actually make a prediction. However, this site also put out early bowl projections and they had us in a bowl so that should give you a clue as to what they think.

Hell yes!
Indeed.
I would add there are two primary questions:
1). Is the athletic scholarship a means to an end? e.g., Getting a college education where it might have been difficult or impossible without the financial assistance?
2). Playing college FB with two parts: 1). Is playing football a 'labor of love' which the player really wants to do? 2). Does he have the ability level to see significant PT on the field?
For many scholarship athletes the answer to both questions (#1 and 2) is yes.
How many families really have say 150 - 200K sitting around for their son to have to go off to college without financial assistance?
And secondly, to most (almost all) players with significant skills playing FB is their 'hobby', their 'life', etc.
They don't play CFB to get a scholarship, they play CFB because they love the game.

Perfect Sir!
I LOVE the fact that high school athletes get the chance to take an activity like football or another sport to another level of competition while earning their bachelor degree. In most cases they have been dedicated and worked very hard in their sport, college allows them the chance to do so. Maxx Crosby, for example, was a lightly recruited athlete who now has an extremely bright future in the NFL. Arthur Jackson, by contrast came here from California, had a good college career and worked on a graduate degree. In my opinion, it it all good.

Lot of new numbers for the 2020 season.
I just looked, all the numbers are updated on the website, and the freshmen have their numbers now.
EDIT: Samson Evans is also now on the roster. He is listed as a running back and a junior.

Lot of new numbers for the 2020 season.
No senior WRs on the team. Who gets #2?
I don't think anyone has to have it, I would rather it be earned and deserved, not handed to.

I was thinking this as well. Would be cool to give it to a long-standing contributing senior at another position, like Jake Julien or Freddie McGee.

Well Deserved, Coach! He's done a great job and has built an identity with the program. Very east to root for a guy like him.

Dear Friends,
I can't believe Mr. Win at Any Price, Coach McElwain, is ahead of anyone. I guess a persons character has nothing to do with the rankings. So, we will see, if we have a season, what he will accomplish.
