I also wouldn't be surprised if Giordano ends up getting some PT this year. Decent size and I remember liking his tape. Had attention and offers from Ohio and Miami (OH) as a recruit coming out high school.

Good starters, depth may be a question if the starters get injured. Expect a couple of the true frosh in this group to redshirt. Parks was a key pick up.

Thompson transferring out.

That’s a late decision...

Yep.

Here is a Tweet yesterday from JUCO Football Frenzy.

https://twitter.com/JUCOFFrenzy/status/1...78019?s=20

That is too bad. Makes the word on Knue that much more important. Hopefully one of the true freshmen is ready to go. As long as those top five guys all stay relatively healthy we should be fine at WR though.

Wish him the best and I'm not sure what the reason is for transferring. Hopefully some school out there will recruit him and gives him the chance he deserves to shine. We do have a LOT of really good talent at younger levels which this absence will allow for these guys to get reps and competition for a guy who will have years left.

Word was that Thompson did not have the build to play D1 football, he was just too skinny and as result, never saw the field. Hopefully he can hook up with a D2 or 3 program and enjoy his last year of eligibility.

I was thinking that he must have had drawbacks to prevent him from seeing time at EMU.

Once again, if players are healthy, have abilities, attitude, work ethics, etc. they will see the field, subject to the depth situation at their position.

When a player doesn't see the field the question is why.

Smith and Eaton may be talented enough for one of them to start but more likely redshirted. We are seeing a talent assembly line where talented frosh are redshirted and then progress.

Really like this group in 2020. Much improved. With a new QB this year the reliance on an Oline will be big to keep him upright and give time. This looks like the most depth we have had in a while. Van Hoeven and Donnelon will be great and I really like Howie and Raceley coming up. Dooley could end up being a 4 year starter when all is done and if he packs on 15lbs more he could get pro looks. Super excited to see how these guys compete and who comes out starting.

Dooley's been working hard on the weights and the diet. Talked to him this morning and he's weighing in at 303. Hasn't slowed down any.

Welcome!

A bounce up to 303 with no loss of speed would be nice for Brian. The question is will the coaches let him play there? I know Alex starts to catch heat anytime he moves much north of 300, and he has been one not to be affected in speed or conditioning even a bit north of the 305 they have him listed at now. They keep trying to get him south of that mark.

From what Alex tells me, the coaches will sacrifice some weight advantage for small gains in quickness. 23 pounds in one off-season seems like a lot from what I understand of the coaches' perspective on weight gain. With all the time away, even though the big guys have been working out hard on their own, I think the coaches might be in for a few surprises once these guys start hitting the scales. Personally, I'd like to see a little more bulk up front!

From what he said they were happy when they saw him a couple weeks ago. I think the listed 280 may have been a touch light last season. Either way I agree with you about seeing some bulk up front, especially if it can move.

You guys both seem to have much more knowledge on it that me, but I agree with the adding some bulk. I thought Dooley played well and showed a lot of promise for a freshmen starting for the first time (especially considering he was a TE the year before). My thought was always "man, if this guy could put on some weight he could be really good" so it's great to see he is up to around 300. It's interesting to read that perspective of the coaches not putting a huge emphasis on that though.

I know its a different level and a whole different ballgame, but you just don't see many (if any) tackles in the NFL that are 280.

The talent base is way above last year. As indicated above, having Eddington and Holford back is a big plus. Both are good enough to start.

Add Rush, Haney, Merritt, Scott, etc. Add a couple new recruits and that is eight for a rotation. (not counting redshirts, etc.).

Scrolling through the 2020 roster this morning, it appears Ty Eddington is no longer on the roster. Although he hadn't had significant playtime recently due to injury, expectations of him were pretty high for the coming year.

Wonder why Jordan Crawford is not on the roster yet?

Early to mid last year we did a decent job pass blocking but our run blocking did not look effective. Pass blocking requires quicker lineman. Hopefully we find the right balance between size and speed.

If I'm not mistaken, Phelps and Eddington were both coming back as medical redshirts. Now both are off the roster. Did something go wrong in the process?
