Edit: then again Gville is like one big Greenbrier strip mall. So not exactly apples to oranges in walking around.

I posted a link to the master plan parking overlay. Two parking decks are planned w/I a few hundred feet of the stadium. These two decks will hold more than 1,500 cars between them. I'm sure there will be ample handicap parking provided.

I think some of us will be getting our exercise on game days. I foresee lots of complaining about the walk from the WHRO lot to the stadium. Maybe they will run shuttles from the lots to the game.

Maybe the Maglev will be working by then...

Maybe they can put a moving walkway on the track like in the airport. People could be whisked to the stadium without moving a muscle

Rather they put in a Monorail.
Guys, if we want a larger stadium and tailgating it is going to come with a price and that price is walking. Go to Tech, UVA, UNC, NC STATE you name it and unless you are a mega donor your are going to walk a little.

Looks like they're getting rid of the field behind the rec center for more parking. I can imagine that won't sit well with a lot of students. There should be some outdoor recreational space near a student rec center. Maybe they think the field out front could serve the same purpose?
Yeah I'm sure they've hashed all that out. Lots of garages on campus. Good for kids with long boards to bomb.

exactly. I've been to UVA, VT, UGA, Tenn, NCST and ECU games. I had to walk to the game from tailgating a lot longer than I've walked at ODU games and I tailgate near the sailing center now.

I was always wondering how well these venues and their 100,000+ fans dealt with parking.
I was at Alabama a few weeks ago. My niece lives there and she graduated there. That stadium is sick 102K. However, you see no parking lots anywhere near the stadium. They do have a nice area across the street from the Champions Walk (Where the statues of former coaches stand) leading up to the stadium. The Quad they call it, looks a lot like Kaufman Mall. She said people come out there the night before the game and claim their spots. They set up, sit around and chat for a while, and leave it for the next day game tailgate.

Just like the Grove at Ole Miss. And there are very few better places to tailgate than at Ole Miss. If everyone bought in to tailgating on Kaufmann Mall, I believe our tailgating environment would improve immensely and it's already pretty darn good.
The difference at those schools like VT, UVA, ECU etc is that a person can tailgate without being a donor. There is space for everyone there, but if you want to park close you have to donate. It appears that at ODU, in order to tailgate at all you will have to be a big donor, and even then walk from WHRO to Powhatan or further. Thats quite a hike for a 3k+ donation. ODU is going to have to follow the model of Ole Miss, and turn Kauffman Mall into an area like the Grove on game day. The biggest difference is at the Grove at Ole Miss, everyone leaves their stuff up during the game. They arrive at sunrise, set up, party, go to the game, come back and their stuff is still there ready to go for the post-game. With the security issues at ODU, I could see fans having things stolen during the game. So add security, extend the time on the mall (to more than 4 hours) to encourage more people to use it and let things stay up for the post game and that could be a good solution.

I had not noticed them until you mentioned it. It sure does look like it, and they look to have ramps for ADA compliance as well. These will be a great advance for safety and convenience.
WOW, I didn't realize how little green space there was on campus. There is almost NO green space on campus other than Kauffman Mall that is not an athletic field. Buildings and Sidewalks

It will also help traffic once the game is over. Cars wont be stopped for 5 minutes waiting for people to cross Hampton blvd

The green spaces highlighted on the map are lawns designated for tailgating. There are other lawns on campus, which are not designated for tailgating, such as the large field in front of the rec center.

Exactly, and you do not have to be a donor to tailgate there now. If you cannot stay there during the game then that's what security can police. Even if they add an extra hour before and after the game. People will need to park and walk a distance with their belongings.
The two elevated walkways very nice indeed.

I was a freshman in the fall of 1993 and I thought then that they should have elevated walkways over Hampton Blvd. it amazes me that they are only now actually doing it (or planning it I guess).
Isn't what is now "Foreman Field" going to remain for a rec area? Ga Southern, Richmond and JMU all had a great shuttle system. There is no reason why ODU can't do the same thing. I wouldn't mind even paying a few bucks to ride a shuttle if I had to park at some of those new parking lots south of the TED.

Aw, it's not for ODU. It's more of a Shelbyville idea.
