I'm all for Georgia Southern going to a bowl game, but if the rules apply to one institution, they apply to all institutions and Georgia Southern knew it wouldn't be bowl eligible when the season started.
It's great that we've had a successful season, but we knew the rules coming in.
(12-02-2014 01:09 AM)ErkSaidIWasTrueBlue Wrote: [ -> ]This thread should be locked and any talk about this appeal process being inconsiderate should be stopped. After weeks of attacks about our"weak" conference schedule and the nonstop whining about "the refs" giving us the ULM game I am unabashedly hoping that we "take" someone's bowl. Why should I worry about anyone else's bowl game when they make comments like that? I know how hard our players fought and I am darn proud we are stepping up to the NCAA and saying let us in. The players deserve it, and if south alabama, tx state, app. state, or georgia state had done what we did in their second year of transition they would be doing the same thing. To say otherwise is just denial. Thanks for all the non-supportive comments lately, expect yall to get your butts handed to you in your bowl games what with yall being part of the "weak" schedule we played all year.

This one's really funny. Another post that reveals just how small, petty, and bitter so ga fan is . . . . Funny, because in the end: Appeal denied, No Bowl for You, Goodnight Now! Your off season is calling . . . .
Regardless of smacktack from their fans, Georgia Southern should be in a bowl game. Yes, they knew the rules going in, but any SBC fan should want its champion in a bowl. They earned it on the field and its a shame our champion will be sitting home while other less deserving teams represent our conference..

Why did you start leaving 5th place Ark St out of this? Don't forget, we didn't play them, either.

We also watched your games and rooted for you OOC, but when you guys went from, we'll take an at large (if not enough teams become eligible) to we'll take a game from any SBC team that earned it and paid their dues. That's when it went south (no pun intended)

Ah, yes. You message board posters will "go to bat for us" starting next year. I'm sure glad. I can't tell you how many times our program has missed out on opportunities because message board posters didn't go to bat for us.

You people sure are full of yourself, and for very little reason. It's not like you're a first-year FBS program that just ran through (see what I did there?) their new conference.

Just a random example, of course.
So did Gaso get in or not?*

I'm sure I have, over the course of the season, said a few inflammatory things on this board. I try to be careful. It's hard to get a shiny new toy (being in FBS) and NOT run around like crazy with it in the neighbors yard until we trample the flower beds and they want us gone. But I can honestly say after reading this thread as of right now I feel no "kinship" or comradery between any other schools in the conference (save App - yeah I just said that.) It's just a bunch of vindictiveness.

As far as bowls go, being new to the process, I know I didn't understand how timing of invites affects ticket sales. Sorry it has to be such a delicate balance there. It's totally our message board fans who are screwing it up for everyone else, itching to log into their Orbitz/Expedia accounts and reserve a room at the Fairfield Inn.

As someone who works in higher education, waivers/petitions are filed about anything and everything. Usually the only ones that get any attention deal with "extreme" cases. Doesn't mean those get approved automatically, but winning the conference and not being eligible based on transition constitute "extreme" in my book. If we don't get it, so what? Life goes on and we will try to beat you suckers on the recruiting trial.

For as obnoxious as some GS posters can and have been this season, a lot of other posters are thin skinned and short sighted to assume this is how "we" are all the time. The newness will wear off. Things will reach a balance.

I am legitimately sorry you guys will have to wait a few days to make travel plans.

It'd be a great case study for a graduate school.

See fellas, that's an understandable mistake. There's nothing psychological going on with so ga. No, what you're witnessing is the byproduct of years and years of inbreeding. You see, in so ga, Deliverence isn't just a movie, it's a way of life. Looking forward to their appeal being denied, hoping they enjoy their off season.

Just....I don't even....

It is easier to deal with when you lead the series against them... 04-bow

Is that accurate? If so that is hilarious. SoGa acts like they have owned App State for the last 40 years during their reign of excellence and dominance.

I'm happy to have App State as a conference member, Southern Ga ...... not so much.

PS - I am making the trip to Boone next year - will fly into Charlotte to visit a friend and Cajun Alum then the game. Pretty excited about it!

App leads the series 16-13-1 (including this year's loss) and have won 7 of the last 10. Be sure to reach out to us once next the dates for next year is set. We will take care of you when it is time to tailgate.

Props to App for dominating those pre WWII games just before our program shut down for 40 years.

Are you always this uninformed?

2-1-1 pre WWII

Since 1987 App has a two game lead and 7-3 in the last ten. Much like America we kicked a$$ before and after WWII.

But much like America post WWII, you've focused more on the battles and we've focused on the war.
the GS fans that won't quit beating a dead horse are annoying.

You idiotic fans of other schools that keep trying to argue with said fans, are just as annoying.
Just sitting here drinking my coffee this morning and wanted to say a couple things:

1 This thread... as crazy as it is, has provided me the most entertainment I've had on this forum all-season.

2 as it pertains to Georgia Southern and their fans...
began the season rooting for their success... then began to hate them because of some very obnoxious GS posters.

3 over the last couple days, I've actually started to warm up to GS again. I admire the passion of their fans. If you sort through this mess enough I've seen that GS has more than a few quality fans here... right now they are just hard to see because of how loud the worst ones are.

I also think some of the other good fans are provoked, not realizing that our irritation isn't directed at them. I wish they would corral their own idiots in some. That would help the situation a great deal. Its one thing for them to hear it from us... it's another to hear it from their own.

4 I would want my ad to do the same thing GS is trying... Rules are Rules sure, but if an avenue is available to request a waiver there is no harm in trying. However, I would have preferred that it happen as soon as we became bowl eligible so that we wouldn't inconvenience our belt neighbors with a ceremonial gesture for our own fans.

5 looking forward to a trip to Statesboro next year. BBQ video on another thread got my stomach growling :)

6 I am hoping the appeal is denied early today so that this madness can die down some and the rest of us can start making plans (if an invite comes through)

7 Surely GS fans can understand the frustration of TXST and USA fans. At minimum, one of our programs WILL receive it's first bowl invite in history. We are excited about it and anxious to start making plans. A ceremonial gesture by GS, while understandable, is delaying that process now which is a bit frustrating for everyone else. We are ready to go! and if not... we are ready to start petitioning the heck out of other bowls to prove we are worthy. The anticipation is killing us and we simply want to know where we stand.

our AD actually commented on this, and said the reason we didn't do it when we hit 6 wins, is that we would be just like every other 6 win team that was bowl eligible. He waited until we were guaranteed at least a share of the title, because then basically at that point, the circumstance for us maybe getting into a bowl is much more substantial than just "hey, we won 6 games, look at us!"
Knowing the rules coming in is beside the point...the point is whether or not an undefeated champ should be prevented from taking part in post season play because of those rules. Also, that the fact that the rules are/were known is what makes what our AD is doing an ok thing...the rules allow for it. It may not work out, but I'd say Southern is pursuing this whole thing in exactly the right way...by the rules.

Plus, what does knowing rules have to do with a rule being "just" anyway? Folks taking about them putting in time and paying dues....what the hell are y'all even talking about? In terms of "deserving", a 6-6 or 7-5 team deserving something over an undefeated champion in the conference, done with less than others played with? Lmao, it will all fall where it falls, but all this is flat out ridiculous...

Some of y'all sound like a bunch of beggars and whiners.

It would be nice to play in the post season, but Southern is in a great spot right now regardless of this outcome...the top.

If it doesn't work out for Southern, which admittedly is likely, be sure to send a gift basket to the NCAA or something for being able to participate in the consolation bowl.

Note to other GS fans and posters. The bolded portion of the quoted post is egregiously condescending and totally unnecessary.

Yes, you are conference champions. Yes you are doing what you should do in the way you should do it to try and get a rules waiver.

BUT: Both USA and TxSt have a dog in the fight. They have both earned [within the rules] the right to be considered for a bowl game. Of course their fans are going to be mildly irritated at the delay in knowing whether they are going bowling. Note that no one here has said that GaSo should not appeal; only that the appeal slows down the process.

Note to 6 Flags: USA or TxSt will be playing in the same 'consolation bowl' that GaSo would play in provided it won its waiver. New Orleans is taken.

But... Georgia Southern is the one begging and whining to have rules changed... Just for them.

By your own admission, it's not about the transition part. It's that you are conference champion and therefore feel entitled to the bowl.

(Note: I am obviously not speaking about the university's stance, or the majority of the Georgia Southern fanbase)

The thing is, it doesn't matter what we post on here. It's not going to change the decision. You guys are getting all uppity as if the NCAA is going to be like "Hmmm, we might approve this, let's see what the Sun Belt posters are saying"
