Since the transition of qtrs take forever, play the 7 minute version of Rubberband man by the Spinners

Song of the south is a decent suggestion. It's a song that most people will be familiar with and is quite catchy.

I think part of the motivation was to pay tribute to and express thanks to Birmingham. Unfortunately the chosen song is probably the least negative song written about Birmingham out there.

That’s exactly the point.

As for the song being boring, look up the most popular stadium anthem in the world. You’ll Never Walk Alone is a cheesy 60s song by Gerry and the Pacemakers. It is not a hype song. It’s boring. But when a stadium full of people sing it, it’s awesome.

How stupid is “Hotty Toddy, gosh almighty, who the hell are we? Flem flam bim bam, Ole Miss, by damn”? Yet, when 60,000 people do it, it’s pretty impressive.

If 20-40k Blazer fans sang this chorus, it would be cool. You need some imagination to see it until we do it.

One thing missing from all of that is that those traditions all sprung up naturally and organically. This is *never* going to take off being forced down anyone's throats

Well, the Liverpool manager in the 60s told the fans that You’ll Never Walk Alone was going to be the new club song. I guess he “crammed it down their throats”?

If you don’t like the Birmingham song, that’s fine. But it seems we are looking for any excuse to be negative about anything that tries to generate organized fan involvement.

How about Imagine Dragons-Thunder...maybe a higher copyright fee, but Dragons, Thunder...yeah it is a reach but less than Sweet Caroline02-13-banana

RE: Birmingham song after 2 games
yep

Hats off to Randy Newman and the Gamecock Band.

I like Song of the South but I'm sure it would offend someone.

Ohio State - Hang on Sloopy? That offend anyone? Was pretty damn awesome hearing that in person.

West Virginia sings Take me Home Country Roads. Any John Denver fans out there?

I would love to play "You shook me all night long" right after Here Be Dragons for the team to run out. I didn't get my wish but that's OK. I'm not offended.

No one will ever unanimously agree on anything. As long as we play Birmingham I will sing it. If they don't play it so be it.

This seems to indicate that's not exactly how it happened at Liverpool.

There were just so many better options out there for UAB. A relatively unknown song was not the way to go in my mind. It is what it is at this point, but I think they should look into doing something else.

Not if you want a song about Birmingham. They wanted a song about Birmingham not about Alabama or the South and all the alternatives I’ve seen/heard are much worse.

Maybe we don't have to have one. Or, maybe it doesn't have to be just about Birmingham. Either way it's okay. No song, or a song about Alabama/the South more generally (or about some other topic besides regionality) is better than what they're trying to do

There are a ton of options floating out there though: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_so...m,_Alabama

Sam Hunt's "House Party" seems like a no-brainer. But I think UAB, Marshall, ULL, and Appy to the AAC is a no-brainer too so I guess obvious is a relative term.

The first 45 seconds of this song would have been super... but then... 03-banghead
If there was a clean version... it might work. This song would hype the players I'm certain.

...while we are on the music thing still, ...we REALLY need to work Queen's "Dragon Attack" in there SOMEwhere... perhaps make it the 'defense third down' tune? Would be MUCH better than the toot horn...

RE: Birmingham song after 2 games
Well, I’m with AB. If they keep playing it, I’m all in with Birmingham, but if it gets dropped, I’ll move on. I DO wish we wouldn’t have Speedy introducing Blazer Thunder. There’s no need. I don’t think he needs to introduce the sing along either. The words and the little bouncy balls make it obvious. It would help people feel better about participating, regardless of the song.

I don’t think there’s a better Birmingham related song out there, so if this one is a no-go, then here are alternate options:

House Party - They play in pre-game. Ugh. Why not do it when the crowd is in there!? We had a Return concert on the stadium site named for that song. And well, Sam played for us!

Kinfolks - another catchy Sam Hunt song

We Built This City - Someone brilliantly created a homecoming theme of We Built This City on Green and Gold. It’s not exactly true, but we could own it maybe.

We should play all of these with no introduction, just the bouncy ball and lyrics, and just see how they are received by the crowd.
