Coach K had already won several NCs in the late '90's and early 2000's, so he has proven he can do it, if college basketball goes back to that. I think Cal would move to the NBA at that point.

Or retirement.

Nope. He will move into the broadcast booth with all the other talking heads. He is perfect for the job.

Perfect replacement for Dick Vitale who will turn 82 in June. 03-old Who would have thought Kentucky and Duke both with losing records at this time of the year?

He may do that. But when he leaves Kentucky he’s done coaching IMO.

The OP assumes the NCAA wants to get rid of Cal. I think that day has passed - about the time he went to UK. In college basketball, the coaches are the brands. And Cal is definitely a brand. He makes money for all of them.

Almost every Tiger fan loved him when he was our coach, and you can't blame him for leaving for KY. But they way he crapped on the Memphis program after he left is why I can't stand the guy. I am enjoying the helloutta watching KY struggle this year.

Exactly!

I get it, you have the chance to coach Kentucky. Go for it.

But if you start the coach-speak "Oh, i'm torn. I'm really considering my options. etc" then to heck with you.

All of that was just so he could keep in touch with the recruits he had under Memphis.

For 9 years we all heard about Camby, and Kellogg, Lou Rowe and all kinds of boring UMass and New Jersey bull**** nonstop. He has never said anything about anyone except maybe Rose and Tyreke Evans. It is one thing to be a complete prick to the fans. It is another thing entirely to take a dump on all of the great players and teammates we had, that turned Cal's career around.

I dunno. I recall John Wall or one of the other UK guys telling a story about how all they heard in practice was about the 2008 Memphis team.

Kinda crazy. This was a decade in the making. Going all in on one and dones is bound to do this eventually. The recruiting rankings are just flat out wrong sometimes. Add in The other blue bloods getting in on the action, the margin for error becomes very slim.

He'll be ok. He's already started the adjustment by capitalizing on the transfer market. They'll flock still...

See, I don't buy into this train of thought. I don't hate Cal per se, but I hate the system that says a school like UK can look at a school like U of M and say "I want that" and then poof, they get it. Cal could have won championships here in Memphis, or he could leave and win at Kentucky, but his system would have worked at either school. Yes, he did whatever to get DRose, but he also paid whatever to get AD from Illinois to Kentucky.

Yep. Everything you said is spot on. I don’t see anyone in the NBA touching him at this point though.

Agree. Calipari looks worn out, to me.

Personally, I’m ambivalent towards Cal. But, IMO, we shouldn’t blame the fans for not re-remembering what went down during and especially after his departure. This doesn’t mean they aren’t “over it”. Cal burns the bridges behind him. That’s on him.

This time, Kentucky needs to take the getaway car before he comes outside and have the NCAA waiting on him when he walks out the door. Might it mean some self imposed bands? Most likely, but their current contract situation with him is much much worse.

So your plan is for KY-U to investigate themselves and put themselves on probation for possibly more than one year so they can get rid of their current coach that has a huge buyout?

Have you been advising Phil Fuller?
