Here’s how Kentucky and college basketball gets rid of Calipari for good. - BIGDTiger - 02-10-2021 08:51 AM

Throw his arse under the bus. You know he cheats. He’s just slippery and always leaves the school holding the bag when he leaves. This time, Kentucky needs to take the getaway car before he comes outside and have the NCAA waiting on him when he walks out the door. Might it mean some self imposed bands? Most likely, but their current contract situation with him is much much worse.

The only way to get him to leave is to end the "one and done", which is slowly happening. He will have to adjust to "building a team" slowly with 3 or 4 year players. He did it at UMass with his (2) guards then added Camby (who, today would be a one and done, or G-League Select). Cal kinda did it here with the Laurenburg guys and Carney; but consistent Elite 8's and Sweet 16's aren't enough for Kentucky. I'm not sure that he has the patience for that kind of development anymore. Recruiting players with the idea that they will develop into what you want 3 years into the future is riskier than recruiting players who are stars immediately. Coach K had already won several NCs in the late '90's and early 2000's, so he has proven he can do it, if college basketball goes back to that. I think Cal would move to the NBA at that point.

Yep. Everything you said is spot on. I don’t see anyone in the NBA touching him at this point though.

Quote:Might it mean some self imposed bands?

He would join a long distinguished list if this happens.

Amy Winehouse - USA
Bob Dylan - China
The Beatles - Israel
Gloria Estefan - Cuba
Bjork - Tibet
Madonna - Israel
Snoop Dogg - UK
John Calipari - Lexington

So again, to go over your carefully crafted plan, Kentucky will snitch on itself, and take the risk of multiple year postseason bands? This is almost as smart as you insisting that Nolley should be our point guard.

Kentucky 5-13 so far this year. Hard to believe....but it's true.

I loved Calipari when he was our coach. I was disappointed he left for UK, but I don't hate him. Obsessed Calipari-haters need to get over it.

Precisely. Same can be said for other ex-coaches, as well.

And, if you are going to be mad at a coach that didn't live up to your expectations, shouldn't your vitriol be toward the people that hired him?

It may be obsession with some folks. In this case it’s more of wanting to see the man who has almost solely spoiled my favorite pastime. As a fan base It’s easy to get caught up in temporary success and overlook the grey areas. We were just as guilty of this as UK. I know I was. UK is learning that right now. His imminent breakup with Kentucky will be far worse than what happened at Memphis. I guess they deserve it.

Kinda crazy. This was a decade in the making. Going all in on one and dones is bound to do this eventually. The recruiting rankings are just flat out wrong sometimes. Add in The other blue bloods getting in on the action, the margin for error becomes very slim.

My point was that, prior to Derrick Rose, Cal had used 3-4 year players (the Laurinburg guys and CDR) to build success. Derrick Rose, obviously added to that foundation and helped get to the Championship game that year. I don't know that 2021 Cal has the patience to build teams using 3-4 year players going forward if elite Freshmen stop going to college.

Almost every Tiger fan loved him when he was our coach, and you can't blame him for leaving for KY. But they way he crapped on the Memphis program after he left is why I can't stand the guy. I am enjoying the helloutta watching KY struggle this year.

Nope. He will move into the broadcast booth with all the other talking heads. He is perfect for the job.

^^THIS. Without question, it was the way Cal left that put that sour taste in my mouth. Just remember folks, just as it is true that time heals all wounds, it is equally true that time wounds all heels!!

Exactly!

I get it, you have the chance to coach Kentucky. Go for it.

But if you start the coach-speak "Oh, i'm torn. I'm really considering my options. etc" then to heck with you.

All of that was just so he could keep in touch with the recruits he had under Memphis.

For 9 years we all heard about Camby, and Kellogg, Lou Rowe and all kinds of boring UMass and New Jersey bull**** nonstop. He has never said anything about anyone except maybe Rose and Tyreke Evans. It is one thing to be a complete prick to the fans. It is another thing entirely to take a dump on all of the great players and teammates we had, that turned Cal's career around.

RE: Here’s how Kentucky and college basketball gets rid of Calipari for good. - rolexjames - 02-10-2021 01:42 PM

I hated the way Cal crapped on Memphis when he left. I hated the way Cal would talk to the kids or throw them under the bus. Even now he never mentions the success he had at Memphis, even though beside the championship, we were the most sustained success he ever had. His former players loved him. That's key.

Cal too had to learn...He didn't dominate CUSA until Louisville and Cincy left. He was a great spokesman for the program and the conference. He even got invited to speak at the NBA draft when he didn't have anyone drafted in the 1st round. Gotta love because Cal will be Cal.
