Well, well, like I said above. But seems this is a budding conservative not waiting to get mugged. Bully to you!

yep

My next door neighbor moved here for work from upstate NY. He is a hard core conservative (Trump 2020 flag in his garage), but was working when they started that rumor of looting suburbs. He texted and asked me to keep an eye on his house b/c his wife was home alone. He said "I know you southerners don't play". You loot, we shoot!

This past winter I came in from being at camp and deer hunting, when the neighbor across the street saw me unpacking my truck and said you been gone all weekend huh. Yes sir, been up in the mountains at camp.

I got the stand out, and he looked at it kinda funny and asked what it was. Said it was a climbing deer stand, I had been hunting. Dude lost his mind because now it's a different story cause a gun is involved. Went on and on about a gun being on the street in the open. Being loud. I pulled out my bow case and opened it. He said that's an odd gun.. Because it's not a gun genius. It's a compound bow, I rarely use a gun when I hunt..

Fast forward to a week ago, I'm getting in the truck and he sees me, comes over.. Hey man you seen all this stuff with protesting huh. Yes sir.. What would happen if the rioting moved to this area, what would you do, can that bow protect you.

Well it could, but I'd probably load up both 12 gauge shot guns, maybe my little 410 for a close encounter, and probably strap my 45 to me, but I wouldn't worry it won't happen.

Can I borrow a gun? I'm sorry to ask such a favor.

I slapped my forehead and said, oh silly me, I'm sorry I thought you asked what I would do if I had any guns, no I don't have any, after the scene you caused in November I destroyed them all. If riots do come this way, I suggest hunkering down in your basement.

I sure hope you're right but they sound pretty serious about it.

I have very liberal family members who live in MN and they will vote no to eliminating a police force. I think this is a case of posturing politicians purporting some kind of solution and a very loud vocal minority proclaiming it to be what's needed.

Is policing/prison reform in some capacity needed? Absolutely. But eliminating the force entirely? Wtf?

What are some viable thoughts on police reforms?

As far as prison reform goes, here are my thoughts:

Mandatory capital punishment for murderers and rapists. This will free up capacity.

Mandatory prison time for all other criminal offenses.
If maximum time is not rendered then sentencing judge or granting parole board members become accountable & responsible for that criminal's future criminal actions once released. Judge/Parole Board members will get prison time based on a percentage of the sentence for the new crimes.

Robber who killed 80-year-old at Houston Walgreens store was out of jail on two felony PR bonds
8:45 AM CDT May 19, 2020

Quote:HOUSTON — A career criminal who had been arrested nearly 70 times has been identified as the man who stabbed a woman shortly before being shot to death by a Houston police officer last weekend.

Randy Roszell Lewis, 38, allegedly stabbed an 80-year-old woman in the chest at a southwest Houston Walgreens shortly before he was shot and killed by a responding officer.

Quote:An officer was flagged down at the Walgreens and confronted Lewis, who police said had a 6-inch blade. When the suspect did not comply with the officer's commands, the officer shot him twice.

Quote:Lewis who attacked Rosalie was out on two felony PR bonds and has an extensive criminal history. He has been arrested nearly 70 times, according to the Houston Police Officers' Union.

Quote:Acevedo echoed his frustration at the murder scene, criticizing bail reform and criminal justice reform in Houston. He said it's "a complete disaster."

By the way, here's the results of "reform".

Quote:n a statement, a spokesperson for the District Attorney’s Office agreed, but pointed blame to the judge on the case:

“The defendant had a history of mental illness and he should have been kept off the streets. He recently absconded from the personal-care facility where the judge ordered he live instead of being held in jail. The judge had not issued a warrant for his arrest even when he had absconded, so police did not even know to look for him and unfortunately this tragedy occurred before he could be returned to court.”

Here's an example of a judge who failed/neglected to protect the public.

What would Lewis have been charged with? First degree murder? Second degree murder? What max prison term would that carry? Let's say 25 years.

The judge at fault should have to serve 10% of that term, 2.5 years. But since Lewis has a lengthy criminal history that percentage should be bumped up to 25%, 6.25 years.

Here is another more recent example.

David Dorn shooting: Arrest, murder charge announced in killing of retired St. Louis police captain

Quote:The suspect, Stephan Cannon, 24, was charged with first-degree murder, first-degree robbery, first-degree burglary, felon in possession of a firearm and three counts of armed criminal action, Gardner said.

Let's look into the suspect Stephan Cannon's background.

Man charged in 'tragic murder' of retired St. Louis Police Captain David Dorn

Quote:Police said Cannon has a criminal history and is a felon. In 2019, Cannon was released from probation on a 2013 robbery and assault. He is currently facing charges for allegedly using counterfeit cash to steal an X-box in February.

Read that carefully.

The guy who just killed a man was out of prison on probation. Between the time he was released on probation and the time he killed Mr. Dorn, he also passed counterfeit money.

Had he still been in prison he would not have:
1. Passed counterfeit to steal something
2. Killed a man

The person (or people) who let him out of prison is (are) indirectly responsible for Mr. Dorn's death. They should be held responsible.

Quote:According to Minneapolis Police Chief Medaria Arradondo, the department intends to immediately withdraw from police union contract negotiations.

On Wednesday, Arradondo claimed the move will be the first step to bring about “transformational reform.”

“I plan to bring in subject matter experience and advisers to conduct a thorough review of how the contract can be restructured to provide greater community transparency and more flexibility for true reform,” he said.

He explained the issues that need to be addressed are not officers’ wages, but protocols of critical incidents. This would include the use of force and responsibility of supervisors.

“I do believe that we have the people, the men and women within this organization who are not going to let Mr. Floyd’s death be in vain,” stated Arradondo. “(They) are not going to let the actions of a few tarnish what they’ve worked so hard for and continue to work so hard for.”

He added the department will implement new systems to track officer performance data, in order to catch potential misconduct earlier on.

RE: Minneapolis Set To Vote YES To Dismantle the Police
Quote:The Minneapolis City Council unanimously voted on Friday to abolish the Police Department and replace the law enforcement agency with "a community-led public safety system." For communities its size, Minneapolis has one of the highest crime rates in the nation.

The 13-member city council, comprised of 12 Democrats and one Green Party member, voted to begin a year-long process of engaging "with every willing community member in Minneapolis" to come up with a new public safety model, Reuters reported. The council also established a new workgroup to deliver recommendations by July 24 on how to transform the city's public safety system.

On Sunday, a veto-proof majority of Minneapolis City Council members announced their intention to defund and disband the city's police department following the death of George Floyd and subsequent riots.

On CNN, Alisyn Camerota gave every chance she could to Minneapolis City Council President Lisa Bender, who surely, Camerota imagined, didn't actually imagine a "police-free future" for Minneapolis. Oh, but she did. Earlier in the week, Bender had tweeted her intention to disband the police force, asking white people if they were "willing to dismantle white supremacy in all systems, including a new system?"

On Saturday, a mob of protesters called Mayor Jacob Frey out of his home to ask whether he supports defunding the city's police department. The angry crowd screamed obscenities and told the community-organizing mayor to "go home" after the mayor said "no" to the idea of abolishing cops.

The far-left cry to "defund the police" is now picking up steam in the Democratic Party, shocking those who thought the idea was too extreme even for today's Democratic Party.

Trump Campaign Communications Director Tim Murtaugh noticed one thing the "defund the police" loons all have in common: they all support Joe Biden for president. So while the expected Democratic presidential nominee can say he doesn't support the radicals calling for the abolition of cops, the radicals surely support him.

Quote:The Minneapolis City Council unanimously passed a resolution Friday to pursue replacing the city's police department with a new community-led public safety system.

The decision comes after George Floyd died at the hands of police last month, which sparked a national uprising against racial injustice and police brutality.

“The murder of George Floyd on May 25, 2020, by Minneapolis police officers is a tragedy that shows that no amount of reforms will prevent lethal violence and abuse by some members of the Police Department against members of our community, especially black people and people of color,” five council members wrote in the resolution, according to Reuters.

More than a dozen Minneapolis police officers published an open letter condemning the actions of former officer Derek Chauvin, who is responsible for Floyd's death. Chauvin was charged with second-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter, and three other officers, J. Alexander Keung, Thomas Lane, and Tou Thao, were charged with aiding and abetting.

The officers also wrote in the letter their support for police reforms.

The council will begin a yearlong process of engaging "with every willing community member in Minneapolis” to come up with a new public safety model. The council also commissioned a new work group to provide recommendations by July 24 on how to engage with community stakeholders to transform the current system.

Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey said he supported "massive structural reform to revise a structurally racist system" but stopped short of saying he would vow to abolish the police department amid growing calls to do so.

You don't have to have a permit to own a handgun. It's good if you decide to conceal carry, but not a requirement to own and keep in your house.

Less popular AR than a 15? I'm not sure what you're saying. You saying you want a AR-15 or do you want something similar?

If you don't know much about guns, my suggestion is to buy a simple revolver first and get used to it. Instead of the AR route, buy a pump shotgun. A 12 gauge with buck shot will protect you just as well as a AR, plus the cocking sound of a pump is one of the most recognizable sounds in the world.

Interesting experiment.... I humbly hope it works out, but the pessimist in me is very doubtful it will.

An AR-15 is also your best bet, just stock up on ammo when it's available, and get some army surplus ammo boxes to store it in. It will stay good for many years that way (if you buy sealed cans it will last for decades). Don't just leave it out.

Whatever you get PRACTICE with it. Practice a lot. Get training. If you don't know what you're doing you might as well have a hammer in your hand.

In the event of a SHTF situation, your best bet (IMO) is an AR-15 and a Glock. Standard issue police and military that you can get parts and ammo for at any abandoned police precincts or military installations (and many abandoned homes for that matter).
I can tell you why.

Easier to load and shoot. When I shot my first 45 the slide caught my hand, never had it with a revolver. But you're right practice is key.

Also the suggestion with the shotgun is because as a new shooter, aim doesn't have to be perfect, plus shot guns are cheaper. If a burglar comes into your house and the option is a AR 15 or a shotgun, what would be the better option, in my mind the shotgun.

That's just my advice.

Well if he hears you load the shotgun, he knows his guts will get splattered all over the place.
