RE: Minneapolis Set To Vote YES To Dismantle the Police
Target is one of the larger major corporations headquartered in Minneapolis. They were also victimized at several locations by riots. Im going to be watching to see if they quietly move their HQ to another more hospitable, more secure, pro-business city. I would if I were them.

I so wish the MPD would just walk off the job and let the city of Minneapolis be “law enforcement- less” for a couple of months. As soon as the criminals figure out anything goes, it will be out of control.

#1 place where police get killed is answering domestic disturbances.
Would you send social workers to get killed?
Would you send a medical person to go up to an erratic, perhaps mass murderer in the store?
In small towns they deal with barking dogs and noise. In big cities, they don't even deal with burglaries. They write them up and file them.
I’m certainly not advocating for social workers going it alone.
There is also a place for preventative programs that address the education, health, poverty, substance abuse, and mental health issues that plague many high crime communities. The problem is that most cities do a piss poor job of running such programs and most end up being wasteful and fraudulent.

RE: Minneapolis Set To Vote YES To Dismantle the Police
Supposedly dismantling the police department in Camden, NJ worked. Sounds like the city division was dropped, county took over. Continued focus on inner city. The county department doubled in size. I think it’s a poor example to use. This was reform and a change of leadership, not scrapping it all together. County budget took on part of the city policing, Expected to save them $14-16 million annually. Sounds like a prime example of pulling police from white neighborhoods, doubling the size of the roster and patrolling the minority communities twice as much. They had all of the reform and deescalation training, etc.
The city division had a huge scandal that had 4-9 cops planting drugs on people nearly 200 times. 88 victims received money from a settlement of $3.5 million.
That doesn’t sound like what Minneapolis has in mind. We’ll see.

My company's parent company is Ecolab, headquartered in MSP. I deal with heavy manufacturing, but we have other divisions that deal with urinal cakes and bathroom hygiene products. Going to need such things as MSP will resemble the shithole Detroit in rapid fashion if there is nobody there to enforce laws.

From what I've read about the police mandate that exists in each state, the police are tasked with keeping the order. So that would include noisy neighbors after whatever time is in place for noise reduction. Barking dogs would also fall under this. So would stumbling drunkards that are causing a disturbance.

You could not believe how fast once I located another job out of that city and state I would be gone. The inmates in the asylum are running that show.

So you still have police. Whats the difference, other than you have fewer officers and longer response times? Not to mention, taxes will rise. Citizens are still on the hook for all the money they used pay the city department (those funds just got transferred to city social programs) and now the County taxes have to go up to double/triple/quadruple (whatever is appropriate) the county force...and as we have seen, the police force makes up most of local budget. A city, from a budgeting standpoint, is really just a police/fire department with a few extra services tacked on.

Not always the case. Here 75 cents of every tax dollar goes to the school district.

Target gladly lets grown male pedophiles into the bathroom w/ little girls. Highly doubt they leave a liberal utopia like Minne-dishu.

Are they going to send social workers to confiscate our guns? 'Cause that could be funny.

You guys are missing the point of dismantling the police.
This is all about the politicization of force.

RE: Minneapolis Set To Vote YES To Dismantle the Police
It's important to actually understand this idea and not just act like nobody wants any police anywhere.
Camden, New Jersey did something radical already. It's something at least worth looking into.
Quote:“What we’re experiencing today in Camden is the result of many years of deposits in the relationship bank account,” says Scott Thomson, Camden’s chief of police until 2019. He led the city’s high-profile pivot to community policing from 2013 until last year and oversaw what turned out to be a steep decline in crime. Homicides in Camden reached 67 in 2012; the figure for 2019 was 25. Over the past seven years, the department has undertaken some of the most far-reaching police reforms in the country

RE: Minneapolis Set To Vote YES To Dismantle the Police
MN is a great place - outside of the Twin Cities. The Twin Cities (and St. Cloud) are rapidly degrading and it's going to cause a massive influx of metro people into greater MN. This whole 'dismantle' the police idea is going to backfire so freaking much; I'm honestly shocked it's even getting this much traction.
MSP has already been a fairly liberal place, but this is a whole new level....

Who actually thinks dismantling the police is a good idea? Lmao... I mean come on, this is real life. This isn't a protest sign or some slogan. This would be our public safety and emergency services going away. There will be lot more vigilante justice.

It’s a “we’re too stupid to be in charge but these idiots keep voting for us” thing.
