Also, I am extremely suspicious of this "moving the budget from cops to "community services" narrative" because I've seen for years, libs tend to leave the wording vague enough that this is nothing more than a cash grab for their buddies.

Maybe...maybe not. The city could simply change what it defines as a "police officer". Heck---they could mandate that officers not carry guns like British peace officers. Im sure there are lots of ways to institute something very close to the elimination of the police department as we currently define it if a City Council puts its mind to it. That said, if the description of the City Charter requirements is accurate, I expect that any attempt to significantly erode the traditional powers and strength of the current police department will likely meet with a court challenge.

Minneapolis will be a no-go zone within 6 months. Just hope it doesn't then bleed over into St. Paul.

The pendulum of the Left always swings to the insane and when it does it gives the pendulum of the right the push it needs until it reaches the apex of overreaction. Then it starts to swing left again. I'd say we are definitely into the insane zone now. So, it won't be long until it starts swinging right. We need to remember that our goal is to stop it at balance and try to keep it there. If it moves too far right it will head left again.
I agree. The problem is that the progs have moved that party so far left that even a centrist proposal looks far right to them.

It's going to wind up being a carbon copy of East & West Chicago.
Without police Minneapolis may be able to top 18 murders in one weekend giving Chicago's new record a run for the money.

Definition of a conservative: A liberal who's been mugged.
Tell ya what though, it'll be a fascinating social science experiment. Ill-advised, dumb and grossly counterproductive for that city and their residents, but fascinating.
I’m with you, fascinating experiment. We can say that because we don’t live there, I’d be nervous as hell if I lived in Minny.
Sounds like it may be no more that political posturing given the requirements of the charter.....

If this indeed happens, you best change your opinion on guns. You will need one.
I'm looking to buy several guns this week...I've had it with all this talk of "Defund the Police" and the potential threat to the 2nd amendment by the increasingly idiotic Liberal dolts.

I applied for pistol permit a week ago. Waiting for them to process it, before I go buy a pistol. Think I want a less popular AR than a 15, so I don’t have to worry about there being a shortage of ammo being sold during any crisis. Don’t know much about guns. But, when threats start floating around in Birmingham that they were gonna start looting suburban neighborhoods, I felt defenseless. So, over the next month, I’ll be purchasing a couple and become more educated on them.

You don't have to have a permit to own a handgun. It's good if you decide to conceal carry, but not a requirement to own and keep in your house.
Less popular AR than a 15? I'm not sure what you're saying. You saying you want a AR-15 or do you want something similar?
If you don't know much about guns, my suggestion is to buy a simple revolver first and get used to it. Instead of the AR route, buy a pump shotgun. A 12 gauge with buck shot will protect you just as well as a AR, plus the cocking sound of a pump is one of the most recognizable sounds in the world.

I assure you you that it is better to run the potential risk of bad police than deal with the certainty of no police in major metros. Do you think this won't bleed over into fire/rescue if they don't have law enforcement backup?

Not a chance. They’ll send in the social workers instead. I mean, domestic violence is just a lil spat, right?

RE: Minneapolis Set To Vote YES To Dismantle the Police
I'm not sure why people tell new gun people to buy a revolver. Don't. Get a pistol, learn how to use it. An AR-15 is also your best bet, just stock up on ammo when it's available, and get some army surplus ammo boxes to store it in. It will stay good for many years that way (if you buy sealed cans it will last for decades). Don't just leave it out.
Whatever you get PRACTICE with it. Practice a lot. Get training. If you don't know what you're doing you might as well have a hammer in your hand.
In the event of a SHTF situation, your best bet (IMO) is an AR-15 and a Glock. Standard issue police and military that you can get parts and ammo for at any abandoned police precincts or military installations (and many abandoned homes for that matter).

I can tell you why.
Easier to load and shoot. When I shot my first 45 the slide caught my hand, never had it with a revolver. But you're right practice is key.
Also the suggestion with the shotgun is because as a new shooter, aim doesn't have to be perfect, plus shot guns are cheaper. If a burglar comes into your house and the option is a AR 15 or a shotgun, what would be the better option, in my mind the shotgun.
That's just my advice.

I agree with the shotgun, but no one should start with a 45. Most people deride my handgun as trash but I'm still rocking my 9mm Beretta. Rounds are cheap, the kick is light and you have plenty of rounds per mag.

Exactly. My first pistol to shoot was a .22 revolver.
