Roanoke, Asheville, Greensboro, Knoxville are all great locations central to the actual fan bases that care about basketball (minus UTEP) and aren't in the home city of a school. Host it there and you'll see attendance double unless the final is UTEP vs. UTSA. CUSA doesnt give a crap about anything or anyone outside of Texas.

Can you all sense why ODU fans are apathetic about this league? We are in 8th place, have a key injury, had two starters transfer mid season, and our lone senior averages 4.6 points a game, we have an uninspiring offense, yet we have the best attendance. This should probably give you all some insight on why some ODU fans consider it one of the best programs in the conference and why there is a superiority complex at times.

It was true for last year.

THIS. ^^^^

Really, there is no other criteria or consideration for this league right now. Conference USA is trying to survive on financial scraps and crumbs and leftovers. We would hold our tournament in Wuhan if the price was right.

Actually, there is more criteria, such as the absurd request to have the men's and women's play in the same arena

Divide the Conference into East and West Divisions, just like Football.

The Eastern teams play at the home of the top Eastern seed, the Western Teams at the top Western seed. Then after a day off for travel, have the championship game at the highest remaining seed.

This reduces travel, gives the top seeds a reward for their regular season work, and will increase fan participation.

I don't see a downside.

This is an interesting option. You need a plan in case the Women's Divisonal champ comes from the same school as the men's.

With only 6 teams from both men and women at each site, they could use the same arena. At most, 2 mens and 2 women's games the same day.

Okay, it seems like that would work.

Yep. While we are at it... if you took the bottom 4 teams' attendances and added them up, it would come close to ODU's (5852).

The two Florida schools are pretty sad... 1152 and 1298 despite having decent performance for themselves.

And somehow UTSA, being picked 2nd in pre-season, with one of the best scorers in the country, gets a whooping 1212.

Yikes.

I would agree with this "if" there is no long term plan of keeping this conference together. If that is the case then make the most money until it happens. However, if the plan is on having a long term future then we need to start branding the league in a better way. Right now we look pretty sad.

Asheville would be awesome. I've spent a couple long weekends down there before brewery hopping.

Just spent the weekend at the SoCon tourney (Heading to the champ game in a bit) and it has been another great year here. Games have been getting 4100-6500 in attendance. The locals love it.

Asheville is a great town. A lot of fun stuff to do there. A nice downtown area, great food, nature/hiking, music, the Biltmore. Its also apparently where the SoCon holds their tournament. But if we're competing with the SunBelt and SoCon now (and apparently both were better than CUSA this year), there are even bigger problems than tournament accessibility and attendance.

Are we playing attendanceball or basketball?

I guess when you all are down you can talk about neither. 05-stirthepot

3. Marshall (4 1/2 Hours)
4. UAB (3 1/2 Hours)
5. UNCC (4 Hours)
6. ODU (7 1/2 Hours)
7. USM (7 Hours)
8. LA Tech (10 Hours)

That is 8 of your top 10 schools in attendance within driving distance (UTEP/N.Texas the exception). The leaders of this conference need to decide whether they want to solidify this conference and build some tradition or continue to appear cheap and fragmented.

Greenville SC might be another option, just somewhere in the east that puts more schools closer than a TX based tournament.

Greenville is also a nice city. I'm going down this weekend actually.

The tournament will be in Frisco until another city outbids it. The eastern schools better tell Greenville, Knoxville, etc . to put in a decent bid for the tournament. You can cry on a message board all day but it doesn't change anything. This topic is getting tiresome to say the least. When the tournament does move closer to the eastern schools I'm going to come on here everyday and start threads and ***** about how the tournament should be closer to Louisiana.

And if the western schools and LT had any attendance you'd have a point to be upset. In the meantime, you're welcome to b!tch about our b!tching until you really have something to b!tch about. I'm not sure your crying on a message board will do anything about it either though. 04-cheers

You have no point to be upset because it's not about attendance it's about who bids the most for the tournament. So until an eastern city puts in a decent bid shut the hell up. 04-cheers

No I'm good. But maybe you should sit this one out for awhile. You're getting awful worked up over a message board.

It doesn't look like it. We were in the middle of having a discussion. On a message board. Which is its intended purpose. If you can't handle that without telling others to shut the hell up this might not be the place for you.

But go ahead and get the last word. I can tell that's going to be important to you.
