just as outsiders opinion but Birmingham and Bartow Arena seems like a perfect location for the CUSA tourney. Bartow is the right size and would be inexpensive to book, it's centrally located, and provides easy access for USM, MTSU, WKU, La Tech, Charlotte, plus of course the home teams fans.

We did Birmingham, it was poorly attended there too. I personally wish we would just do the tournament on campuses, even if it means spreading it over two weeks to accommodate travel. There isn’t enough interest in cusa basketball to have a tournament with good attendance unless we get lucky enough to have the hometown team be the favorite to win it. We do have that this season, so we will see how UNT fans turn out, but their lackluster attendance during a solid season doesn’t inspire a lot of confidence me in.

I don't care much for the curtain at the Star either, but as long as Frisco is supporting the event, I guess C-USA will stick with the location. But, there could be another option in the future....

North Texas is planning to build a new basketball arena. The new venue will feature seating for 6,000 to 7,000, with a lower bowl, upper deck, and suites.

The facility will be big. Aside from the actual playing arena, the structure will have two side by side practice courts. I'd think the practice courts' floor could be converted to feature one central court and seating arranged.

Also, North Texas will still have the Super Pit and Snake Pit across the bridge at the main campus.

Future CUSA Hoops Tournaments
Tournament isn't moving until Frisco stops paying for it or they get outbid (not likely)

I flew out for the Final last year and yes, the set up is less than ideal.

1 (not likely) possibility I see if ESPN gets more involved with our media rights is moving the tourney to Orlando and the Wide World of Sports complex at Disney. They have multiple arenas, the Braves spring training moved out leaving a hole in March events.

The CUSAT needs to move on campus. The current arrangement is embarrassing. We deserve better.

That sounds like a thinking outside the box homerun. Make that happen.

Legacy Arena is undergoing much needed renovations. I understand that Birmingham will bid on the tournament again after those are completed.

Love those renderings. I believe y'all launched the "light the tower" or something campaign in 2018 with many projects on the slate. Where is the new arena in that pecking order, and any word on baseball? Since I believe that was mentioned in this current capitol campaign that y'all have embarked upon? What are your opinions of Wren Baker? He was an associate AD here in Memphis for a couple of years before taking the North Texas gig.

Thanks. We are currently on our third project of the Light the Tower campaign, which is the expansion & renovation of our athletic center and the south end zone of Apogee. Another project has been added to the plan (new golf practice facility), which will be built at the same time, thanks to the generous support of a big money booster. At the completion of the athletic center, UNT will focus on developing a new Tailgate Park, across the road from Apogee. This project must be completed before ground can be broke on the new basketball arena. The new basketball complex will be located on the land we currently use for tailgating, between Apogee and the bridge over I-35. The baseball park is scheduled to be built after the basketball arena is finished.

I think Wren is a very smart AD. He knows how to listen to the stakeholders, and incorporate the good ideas into planning a better future for our athletics. He also understands that there is a direct correlation between smart investing, increasing revenues, and success. I really like Wren and hope we can keep him here a few more years before a bigger opportunity steals him away. Wren understands that North Texas has little control over changes within the FBS, and that his job is to position UNT, not to survive in uncertain times, but be to excel. So far he seems to be doing a good job. Wren has been very vocal in his goal of North Texas constantly placing among the top in every sport, on the field, courts, and in pay, and facilities. By most metrics, North Texas is improving on and off the field in athletics.

Here are two links to information about each of the building projects.

very few from texas go to texas to attend a game. You take UTEP out and we've got better attendance than the other 3 combined.

Have you ever been to Frisco?

I think the ones on here down on Frisco have never been because it is a major step up from the previous site Birmingham.

Charlotte just hosted UNT on Wednesday, and the attendance was 2,811. ODU hosted UTSA in their final home game in front of a crowd of 4,969. Last Sunday, UNT hosted WKU in front of a crowd of 4,471. I'd like to see the final attendance number averages for this regular season, and see where each program ranks.

Sorry to disappoint you but Birmingham was horrible, terrible attendance also.

Frisco is light years better than Birmingham, I think anyone that attended both can attest to that.

And very few CUSA fans from eastern schools go to TX for the tournament, that is why a southeastern city needs to host for a few years.

ODU had a decent crowd last year in the Tech vs ODU quarterfinal game, I was there. The Frisco tournament is far from a joke. It’s well ran and if you get the chance you should attend.

Its a joke to those that will only drive 5 minutes away from their home for a tourney. Other than a tourney played at ODU, this ODU fan will find a number of things to complain about. The one thing I'm 100% sure of...he wont be at any game.

ODU did have more fans in Frisco than they had in B'ham. As far as the experience goes...the last 2 CUSA tourney's night and day better than B'ham.

No doubt about it. Really no comparison, Frisco is 10x better than Birmingham. I like the setup and the city supports the tournament. It would be a very bad move for CUSA to move it back to Birmingham

I'd like to see the final attendance number averages for this regular season, and see where each program ranks.

I can't argue with math, but it is worth mentioning that all season long conference games are on Thursday/Saturday, and Charlotte's two Bonus home games were Wednesday/Sunday. Some people have lives and schedules that cannot always be changed at the last minute. Fortunately that isn't me. That, combined with our students being on Spring Break for the UNT Wednesday game, was destined to bring attendance down.
