RE: Future CUSA Hoops Tournaments
Here's an idea that was shared on our board. What do you all think?

The best way to save money is basketball travel. CUSA basketball should be divided into the 2 divisions like football. Each division team plays the others home and away each year and plays two or four of teams in the other division in alternating years. For the tournament, have each the top 4 teams in each division play a mini-tournament at a venue that changes each year and then the two division winners play for the championship on the home court of the team who has the best conference record.

The divisional mini-tournament would be on Wed and Thur and the championship on Saturday. It could be held at the home of the first place divisional team. The loser would get the automatic NIT bid. The championship game will be an exciting sell out.

I like the way it is set up now. You to get to see everyone once and H&H with your division during the season. The conference tournament format is fine with me also. I suspect attendance will improve once our teams start winning relevant OOC games.

ODU can save money by reducing or eliminating pre-conference tournaments and only play close OOC teams. However, your SOS would probably take a hit. I would not want this conference mandated.

That is the plan, from what I've gathered. The competition in the early season tournaments haven't panned out very well in the last few years of early season tournaments, and each school has to pay their own way. Recently it looks like our admin has more willingness to take buy games (Syracuse 2018, Illinois 2019, Arkansas 2020) than previously.
