You don’t know that.
Yes. He is the one landing the players. They aren't coming here if he leaves.
You sound like the office manager at a multi million dollar business who thinks the entire business will collapse without her... Those businesses are not created around office managers and our program and our recruiting is not built around MM.
Lol, I’m sorry you don’t understand recruiting. Who do you think got LQ, Precious and Boogie? The same lead recruiter for Green and Brown that just so happens to being doing everything possible to get out of here.
I think good leaders put people in places they are most successful. I have no qualms giving MM is proper due as a great recruiter and his contribution to the current roster. But the idea that Penny would basically lost and recruit less without him is absurd. Again, no sane coach is building their entire program around a single recruiter. It would kind of be like saying Cal would have been lost without Pastner’s recruiting. Just an extremely dramatic statement.
As far MM doing all he can to get out of here, well you are officially the one “source” with that hot take...

I've heard that Penny and MM have an excellent coaching relationship...some on here act as if they're at a crossroads with one another. Substantiation anybody?

Their substantiation is looking above their heads and seeing the sky falling...

I know. People listen to rumors and run with them. Penny and Mike are very close.

Miller was an AAU head coach and wants to be a college head coach. You cannot possibly blame him for that. And that has nothing to do with his relationship with Penny.

That is why it is a bit laughable that people are spinning ambition to be a head coach as him wanting to get out of Memphis as if to suggest discontent with Penny and how things are going.
Don't pretty much all assistant coaches desire to become head coaches? For some reason I do not find that unique to Mike Miller.

It is always some combination of lying to the NCAA, instigating cover-ups, academic fraud, or repeated recruiting violations. Unless there’s some major skullduggery not yet out in the open, nothing like that happened here. Playing someone with questionable-but-undetermined eligibility for three games with a court injunction in force and the concurrence of University administration simply does not rise to the levels of previous violations resulting in show-cause penalties. And certainly Penny’s payment to the Wiseman family does not, as it occurred when he was a booster and not as a coach.
Should the NCAA be foolish enough to issue a show-cause penalty on Penny, the lawsuit he would file against them (and quite possibly win) would garner some major national attention. All that to penalize a coach and school who played an athlete the NCAA ultimately decided should be allowed to play after a 12-game suspension.
That all sounds good and logical, but you're missing the most logical part of the argument: people hate Memphis/Penny and will do anything to stop us.

RE: So Who Takes The Fall?
Penny has taken over as lead recruiter for Green, some time ago. He has built a very strong relationship with the family. Penny also has a good relationship with Brown, but maybe not as strong as Green.
Penny is the lead recruiter for Cisse.
There are other recruits we are not even publicly aware of.
Mike wants to be a HC, but there are no signs that his relationship with Penny is strained.
If Mike were to get a HC offer after this year, it would almost certainly be a low level program. As he loves Memphis, so it is not a slam dunk he will leave for the first offer.
If Mike leaves, Penny will have no problem finding another high-level recruiter - with his own connections to players.
The dark cloud of the NCAA is the only problem on the horizon.

Agreed. The school has to pretty much blatantly lie to NCAA investigators to get a show cause. If he's in danger of that, there's a LOT of info that no one is privy to.

I think we stand a better chance with this independent board than we would with the normal NCAA process.
This Board was created by the NCAA. They will answer to the NCAA. Will do the bidding of the NCAA. It was created to take some of the heat off the NCAA who has been getting questioned closely by a U.S. Senator. They will come out with clean hands after all is said and done and NO RECOURSE for the team or University. They have no one to answer to. They can still hammer some schools and not touch others. Until someone actually takes them to court will they change. They are too powerful. Fair?? A better chance?? Nope. They will do what the NCAA wants them to. What's going to happen is we will have seen the last of one and done players who will all opt to play overseas unless they can go to the NBA.

For playing an ineligible player and basically flipping double birds to the NCAA? Not to mention, the next day or two, Wiseman and Harris (iirc) were on IG with targets on the back of their shirts.
Most of what you just said has nothing to do with the bylaws but perceived feelings hurt and the part that is a possible violation I stated that Penny said the University told him to play Wiseman
Seriously dude, do you actually think that the Wiseman family has Leslie Ballin on speed dial?
Or they conveniently just added the U of M as a defendant in the case?
There is someone associated with the program who was pulling strings on this deal.
You sue yourself by proxy to leave yourself with plausible deniability.
So the U of M can walk into the investigation and say our hands were tied we had to do it.
I agree that is likely what happened...
Now prove it.
See that is where it ends...And essentially the University was forced to play Wiseman.

Let's hope Penny has learned his lesson with Wiseman and let the school pay for moving expenses this time since it is a private High School.

Don’t blame him at all. And he will be a good one. Great recruiter. He still has to have a degree first.

The Univ of Memphis coach did not pay to move Wiseman. The HS coach did.
