Cici lacked control the entire game. She started the 5th Inning according to the pitch tracker on ESPN at 92 pitches and ended at 127 when Laporte pulled her.

I'm thinking probably her worst game as a Duke with the following stats:

4 2/3 Innings pitched, 10 hits, 15 runs with 14 earned, 8 BBs, 3 WPs and 2 HRs.

Lady Dukes get another shot at UGA this afternoon at 1. Hope for a better result. Almost think you give Cici a break for the remainder of the weekend and let her DH and not pitch but I'm sure she wants another shot at the Dawgs......

Dukes already on the board in the 1st inning as Gordon leads off with a triple and CC gets her in. Boseman in the circle has an easy top 1st against APU. Hopefully, the Good Gals run-rule them again today and keeps the offense rolling. Even in the loss last night, we scored double digits (again).

BOOM! Gordon with an opposite-field 3-run dinger with 2 outs in the top of the 2nd trims the early UGA lead to 4-3. Nice.

Boseman in the circle in Game 2 for the 2nd time today.

Hanging in there, down 7-5 in the top of the 5th. Really needed a split w/ UGA. But at least Boseman and Burmudez are getting some action against a top level club.

Anyone have an idea why CC didn't pitch this game. And does anyone know the status of Camry Arnold?

Wasted opportunity there with a runner on 3rd with no outs and don’t score a single run.

I assume they are giving CC some rest after her rough outing yesterday. I saw on FB that someone said Arnold is injured but nothing beyond that

Sullivan in CF...her bat is coming around. 2 homers in 2 days. Average has doubled this weekend from what it was when she entered. Shifflet has been moved up to 7th in the lineup and Phillips down to 9th. This team is going to score a LOT of runs this season - particularly if the bottom of this order ever gets going.

Why not pull the pitcher when she keeps walking people and throwing wild pitches leading to runs?

Sorry but the coaching decisions here make no sense. Pitcher was getting wild and losing control but our coach just lets her keep pitching and now we lose the game without a chance to even have a last inning at bat. Just silly

Prediction: Dukes are gonna score a ton of runs and crush mid-major teams all year long. RPI is gonna settle into around 20ish, we’ll be a 2 seed and the success from that point will be determined by how well our pitching staff (in terms of the players and the coaching) is able to develop by that point.

It’s a long season and the sky isn’t falling. But without pitching improvement, it’s going to be a challenge to make it as far as we have in previous years.

By 2 seed I mean “second highest ranked team in the regional,” but I think that was obvious already. The math isn’t going to work out for us to host one, particularly if the committee uses human reasoning and takes into account the cancelled game that was basically a loss.

Edit to clarify: I think the team could go literally undefeated from now until the NCAA tourney and the committee would still scoff at a 3 loss record and have us as the 17th through 20th best team. The schedule didn’t shake out to be one that’s going to get the team a lot of clout, particularly since Texas Tech and Missouri are now starting to lose games to lower ranked teams (and UNC had dropped out of the top 25 before we even played them). It’s hard for any team to secure a seed without wins against other seeded teams - remember Minnesota a few years ago when they were #1 in half the polls but didn’t get a seed because of schedule strength? In short, my confidence in the seeding system is lower than my confidence in the team. Go Dukes.

Yep, it's early but we're pretty solidly in the #2 position right now. I'd say about a 80% chance.

I agree mostly with your assessment JMUska. I don't think the cancelled game will be taken into consideration. JMU might have been behind at the time the game was called off, but we were within striking distance and had 2+ innings to score and come back. By mid-May when the committee is deciding who-where-seed-etc., I don't think a cancelled game back in mid-February is going to make any difference one way or the other. If the Dukes go undefeated from here on (which won't happen of course, but playing along), we will register some pretty good wins along the way.

In the past when JMU has had excellent pitching and depth (1, 2, and 3), starting the season during Week 2 against strong competition seems an OK decision. After this season, I am hopeful in the future we start during Week 1 somewhere with at least a couple of games against lesser competition so the team can figure out what we have as far as pitching depth. Perhaps just me thinking that way I admit.

While I would like to get an earlier start as well, I don't think that is the issue with pitching. It's not been any better in week two.

I think LaPorte likely has a little more confidence in Boseman after the last 2 days than after the 1 appearance against Kansas down in Florida. It's definitely going to be a question mark all season. CC had a rough night last night obviously which raises more concerns. She gives up a lot of home run balls (in addition to going deep in counts and too many walks). She'll get it together though I think. Her body language in the circle so far is one that makes me believe the weight of the entire world is on her shoulders with Good and Buresch no longer around and her being the one and kinda only against strong teams. She was in that role as a soph when Good was out, but Buresch in her freshman year was pretty good that year.

CC had that body language issue last year in the playoffs as I recall. Gotta get Challace McMillin to work on her psyche.
