Dukester, I'm not understanding. One or two bad losses early in the season knocks us out of hosting a regional? So we don't have enough good teams left on our schedule (Like 40 more games) to get us into the top 16 come the end of the season?

I think this is probably the case, unfortunately. SEC and ACC schools will play a ton of ranked teams the rest of the way. We'll play few, if any.

16 teams get to host regionals.


We were #24 last week before the bad loss to Lehigh on Saturday. We may not even be ranked tomorrow.

Only ranked team we have left on our schedule is a DH with VPI who is 19/20 depending on the poll.

If we had only one more loss the rest of the year, maybe we get a #1 seed.

Our pitching has not been anywhere near where it has been the last 5 years.

Our best two wins are against one team currently ranked #21 and another one ranked #25.

Two blowouts losses versus #14 Georgia, and two losses against unranked teams. (Hidden loss versus S Carolina.

Not exactly the results you would need to be a top 16 seed.

For JMU the first three weeks of the season are the key to getting a top 16 seed. We had our chances, but we were unable to hold onto some key leads.

In my opinion we have a much better shot at a #3 in a regional than hosting one.

I think a reasonable goal for this team is a top 25 finish. While not up to what we have recently accomplished, still very good and something we should be proud of.

Women #29 in this week's coach poll.

Perhaps a sweep versus Tech will get us back in the top 25.

Just tuned in because I had to head to the polls but looks we are up 5-2 at the bottom of the 5th. Go Dukes!

Top of the 6th and the Dukes are up 9-2. 5 errors by the Hoos, ouch.

UVA opened their new softball stadium today (Palmer Park). We are being rude guests in their first game in the new digs. Good Gals up 9-2 in the top of the 6th with a chance to run-rule them. Nice comeback from down 2-0 early.

Dukes load the bases in the top of the 7th on a hit, walk and another UVa error (now 6 for the game) and score a run on a wild pitch. Heading to the bottom of the 7th Dukes up 10-2.

It will be interesting to see if UVA's mediocre softball program gets any boost from their new home park and associated facilities. It was/is well overdue as their old place, The Park, was perhaps the worst in the ACC and well behind many schools within the state.

I think Cignetti is probably pleased with us holding them to a field goal, but pretty torqued off about not at least getting another touchdown.

Beating UVA is great in any sport. Glad we did it in solid fashion.

UVA may be the "grand opening" but I'm hearing various exhibitions and WBB game(s) will probably play ahead of JMU/UVA in November. Anyway, nice to take them down at their new park ahead of them returning the favor this fall.

then Cal who is usually pretty decent and has a win over Auburn already this year.

need these two wins to maintain Top 25 status and in line for a hopeful regional if we dominate the CAA

Dukes run-rule Siena in our first game today. If I read the schedule correctly, the Good Gals will turn right around and face UConn with Siena facing Cal later in the final game of the day.

UConn up 12-2.

Yikes.
