Clark is still underpaid for the job he's done in Birmingham. There are not very many men that would've stayed after the program was shut down in 2014. Clark was betrayed by our Puppet president #fireRayWatts, the UABOT, and the athletic director. Our program doesn't exist today without him staying in Birmingham. You can't possibly reward that level of loyalty with enough cash.

That doesn't mean anything. Wasn't going to be another g5 anyway. Itsa good thing. If your coach stays for more than 3-4 years at a g5 school, without being hired away, then they suck.

Someone's a little salty.

Craziest thing. For years, I've seen people harping on this board that UAB needs to get its **** together.

Well, it's about as together as it's never been before, and more so than a lot of you guys, yet some of you begrudge us doing exactly what you bitched at us to do.

We just made our coach the highest paid coach in C-USA... and other fans are saying he is overpaid... laughable!

Eh, people are going to be salty with the back to back to back men's basketball championship too. I'm partial to a neutral site but we all have wishes.

What is going on with salaries in CUSA East?

Well we've had our coach 10 years. It was good money a decade ago for this league. He hasn't exactly earned a competitive salary since 2014. So it's right where it ought to be.

Charlotte just said they approved $1M. I'm sure Lane and Butchie are competitive with west salaries. Not sure what you're asking. And I feel like UTSA and somewhat UNT are getting ripped off. Overpaying doesn't make you better.

He's not being salty, you're being defensive. He's saying that no salary will prevent the right P5 from taking him if they want him. He wouldn't leave for another G5 no matter what you were paying him. And if he does get picked up by a P5 then it's a good thing because that means he is worth what you are paying him and he is winning, which he is.

Trust me, you don't want a coach that has absolutely no one sniffing around looking to make a deal for ten years. If anything we might be a little jelly that you have a good coach and the sense to do what it takes to make it last as long as possible, instead of a barely mediocre coach you can't afford to get rid of.

Well deserved... the only one of three coaches, that currently gets paid more than a mil per year, to win a conference championship.

Had a discussion with a coworker recently about that topic....my thoughts for the most part when hiring a new coach you should want him to be hired away in 3-4 years as that means he came in and won. If he stays 4+ years it probably means he's been mostly .500 with a year or 2 a couple games over and possibly a couple years under .500. And hope to goodness you're not firing him in less than 4 years as in all likelihood it means he was a total disaster. Lastly and worst case you hire an Ellis Johnson who gets fired after 1 year because he took you from what was a previous 12 win season and turns it into an 0-12 season.

Ignore the trolls and the haters. UAB moving up in the world and Bill Clark is a huge reason why. The new contract is exactly what it should be.

Possible he replaces Saban? Or that somebody else grabs him? Yeah sure. Who cares? Deal with it then, when/if it happens. For now, take some names and kick some @ss.

Bear jr & co would never lower themselves to hire a UAB coach as UAT’s hc

I honestly dont know if the number is 0 but I believe I read UAB was allowed to take kids which were basically prop 48 type that did not count towards the 4 in 5 rule.

Only time will tell if UAB made a mistake with this contract but I dont think there was a need to go this route this year. Doesn't Bill Clark still need a year or two in the Alabama State System before he is eligible for state retirement which pays him in the neighborhood of 200k for life?

How many coaches left a CUSA program for another G5 head coaching job? That risk was very low and at this point UAB was bidding against their self

Maybe we are showing faith in our coach and that means something to him? He has had every opportunity in the world to leave and for whatever reason didn’t. He seems to be very happy at UAB and I’m assuming our biggest boosters wanted to reward him for a job well done.

The guy has won everywhere he’s ever been. Do you remember the year before the shutdown? It certainly felt like UAB was trending in the right direction then too. In one offseason he took a team from a dumpster fire to bowl eligible. I think we probably take a step backwards next year, especially defensively, but that’s okay. Clark has done nothing to inidciate he can’t win under the rules in place for everybody else.

Anybody who wants to complain about the players we were able to recruit is free to contact their athletics dept and ask them to shutdown football and rebuild like so many of you think we decided to.

That's a school problem and really no different than hiring a bad coach that basically shuts a program down with bad coaching. Then it takes the school 3 years to recover from bad recruiting or to get the correct type of players for a different system

It still doesn't change the fact the NCAA allowed UAB special recruiting rules that allow them to take players that none of the rest of us could.

What your President did was a UAB's problem...it wasn't something any other school or the NCAA forced them to do.

The President of UAB put this in motion...it was a school problem. Actually not a lot different than S. Miss hiring the cheating scumbag that their basketball program still hasn't recovered from.

As a fan I understand that perspective but the NCAA did give UAB special recruiting rules that allowed UAB to have a team full of 6th year Sr's. Some of you are acting like that isn't a huge help....

time will tell if it was a great coaching job or just older more experience players..some talented, trouble players that basically got a huge break with the clock stopping.

As I said my personal opinion UAB was bidding against themselves with this new contract and could have waited a year or two. A contract that is going to be hard to walk away from if it was...

the special rules instead of the coach. But time will tell

The reason UAB got special treatment was that the NCAA knew it was not a UAB decision but UAT decision that shut down UAB football.

There were some obvious advantages, but he also made a championship team out of a bunch of mostly JUCOs. Most of those highly rated players from that crazy 2016 recruiting class never even saw the field. The team just wasn't stacked at all and didn't have depth at most positions other than RB and a couple others. People have heavily over exaggerated
