Thankfully the BOT and Bear Jr did not get involved again. What they did to your program a few years back will never be forgiven.

BOT is involved. They approve the salary

Congrats Blazer fans. He might still be the most underpaid HC in America, kudos.

I swear I am not trying to stir a pot but was UAB really that politically held back that once you guys got the breakthrough to bring the team back from the dead all your football fortunes have been reversed?

short answer: yes
Long answer: YEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

UAB fans were not allowed to even donate to football. We could donate to the athletic department, but not directed directly at football. The Football foundation was started in 2014 after the shutdown.

The D3 school up the road had better football facilities than we did.

Clark would've been having this level of success in 2015 and 2016 had the shutdown not happened, but we're definitely better off now because the BOT has been under so much scrutiny over their treatment of UAB. Clark, probably wouldn't have stayed at UAB this long had the program not been restarted.

and to think, just a few years back (to me lol) UAB was ready to hire Jimbo for 650k and UAT decided that was too much....you guys have really turned the corner and I'm glad to see it.

Congratulations UAB. Clark is the best coach in C-USA. Glad you will hold on to him for another season.

So the top 3 paid coaches in CUSA now are:

1) Bill Clark, UAB
2) Seth Littrell, NT
3) Frank Wilson, UTSA

What is going on with salaries in CUSA East?

I personally think its a stupid move by UAB unless another team was after your coach and I dont think thats the case. Is he a good coach? seems like it but this team is build off special recruiting rules that also allowed a team to have 34 Sr's...old Sr's

1.5 million will not stop the lowest G5 school from coming after him if someone wants him. Depending on the buyout it could be a really stupid move....

do not pay a coach more than you can afford to buy him out...easily

I agree. I also think that's why his name hasn't came up for any of these new jobs. Wait and see mode how he does without those special circumstances.

The dude has won everywhere he's ever coached. He's worth every penny.

Sure, he might get snatched up, but what this contract pretty much guarantees is that it won't be another non-cartel school doing the snatching.

That doesn't mean anything. Wasn't going to be another g5 anyway. Itsa good thing. If your coach stays for more than 3-4 years at a g5 school, without being hired away, then they suck.

How many 6 year Sr's did UAB have this season? How many players did UAB get on transfers that did n;t have the grades to play the year they transfered to UAB but had their time stopped?

I honestly dont know if the number is 0 but I believe I read UAB was allowed to take kids which were basically prop 48 type that did not count towards the 4 in 5 rule.

Only time will tell if UAB made a mistake with this contract but I dont think there was a need to go this route this year. Doesn't Bill Clark still need a year or two in the Alabama State System before he is eligible for state retirement which pays him in the neighborhood of 200k for life?

How many coaches left a CUSA program for another G5 head coaching job? That risk was very low and at this point UAB was bidding against their self

I see nothing wrong with it. The football program is dressing for the job it wants.

-New football facility
-playing in a nice, new stadium in 2021
-Highest paid head coach
-big donor push just began to try to have the most donors in conference

...and now a CUSA football championship to assist with that

The salary has a dual purpose. Keep Clark and make a statement that we're serious about being good at football for years to come.
