RE: Atlantic Union Bank Center Webcam
3 d3 teams definitely isn't exciting, but I'm completely fine with some easy games. The team sucked last year and could use some tune up games. the 3 p5 games will be huge tests and even coming away from one of the 3 with a win would be great. I think in year one of Coach B the most important thing is coming away with more wins than Coach Rowe - like others have mentioned, we need to show improvement and prove we can win again

RE: Atlantic Union Bank Center Webcam
Sometimes I just don't get our fanbase. It's two (2) freaking DIII games. That is one more than normal these days.
The exhibition game is completely irrelevant. It could be a DII (like Philadelphia U), or a semi pro, post graduate touring team like the old Athletes in Action. It doesn't matter-it's a scrimmage against somebody that doesn't wear a JMU uniform.
We have a new head coach with a roster that is 2/3rds new players. So we play an additional DIII this year-big deal. We also have a schedule that is leaps & bounds better than anything we've had in years. And we achieved that schedule despite the fact that we have been an RPI crusher for years. Frankly, I'm impressed we did as well as we did.

I can walk to the Georgia Tech game. Awesome.
Thanks for having two balls whomever scheduled GT. I can't think of anybody that has two, new coach himself?

Looks like the landscaping around the new Phillips Hall building is done or just about done. Looks very nice,

Question for folks who may have expertise in facilities ventilation etc in conjunction with Covid- I just wonder if JMU is in a position based on the status of the new arena to make any tweaks to the ventilation system that would make the arena more pandemic friendly? As an uneducated outsider I know we can’t have a retractable roof arena but are there changes that JMU can make to enable to arena to be state of the art in terms of Covid Or inherently is the arena setup to be “safer“ anyway based on design and the fact that is it new?

This could happen on some days if the outside temperature and humidity are at the right place.
There are code requirements which dictate how much "outside air" needs to be circulated in commercial HVAC systems which is based on square footage and number of occupants. Heating/cooling outside air generally takes more energy to heat/cool than recirculating air (this is why most houses just recirculate and don't bring in any outside air). The arena's HVAC systems where designed over a year ago and probably built the long ago too. The heating and cooling coils would have been designed at a size appropriate for h'burg's climate (history of hi/lo temperatures). They were likely designed heat/cool somewhere close 10% outside air on the hottest/coldest day. Which means on those days, they couldn't possibly handle more outside air and maintain the temperature setpoint in the building.
But, to your question, there are days where the outside temperature & humidity would allow the HVAC system to bring in more outside, but it would greatly increase energy usage. The scale of energy we are talking about for a building like this is not small potatoes. So for what you are asking, it is possible they could do this on some days, but I am thinking it is not likely.

Thanks for your answers. I wonder if in the future we will see an open air arena (somewhere) with a retractable glass roof.

Boards look like they're going to be sweet. Can't wait to see them up and functioning. What a huge upgrade from the convo!

The new scoreboard looks great! I like that it has a bit of a curve to it. The design looks great. I cannot wait to see it in action.
Also really excited for the ribbon and corner boards. That will definitely add to the atmosphere in a big way.

You guys can make fun of and criticize Charlie King all you want but without him JMU would not have many of the new facilities that have been built of substantially upgraded over the last 10 years.
Be careful what you wish for b/c when he retires soon there is no idea of who the next person will be....

really that is what you are going with. the number one driving force and funding for all campus development has been Charlie King, period.
you might not like the guy, but geez give him some credit.
To use your logic it did not matter who we hired to coach basketball for the last 25 years.....it may have made a difference, but then again maybe it would not have made a difference....We'll never know.

Who cares about CK or anybody else standing in front of it. That pic is suuuuuuhweeeeeet. Not sure what I'm going to do with myself going to a home JMU hoops game and feeling like I'm in a modern arena. But, can't wait to find out.
Love it.

I understand he’s the well-greased political insider in our admin who has gotten us support in the general assembly. You were the one who stated it wouldn’t have happened without him. I just think that goes too far.

An engineering study has been completed and concluded that ribbons would not withstand the constant and powerful vibrations created by The Bridgeforth Stomper.
(ok, that didn't really happen, but thought it sounded good anyway)
