Agree with POTUS#4. Ease up. Who cares about bathrooms. Leave that narrow-mindedness at the door plz.

Someone asked about the indoor practice facility at JMU. UC Davis is making a beautiful facility.

Assuming a season is held, the Atlantic Union Bank Center first men's basketball game is against...

drum rolls please...

Maryland-Eastern Shore.

Maryland-Eastern Shore.

Sigh.

3 D3 home games...geez. Otherwise, a good home schedule.

One is an exhibition game... so give them a little credit. ONLY 2 D3 opponents.

When was the last time we had an all D1 schedule? There's like 350-400 friggin D1 schools for crying out loud. Schedule one.

3 power 5 opponents for the first time since 04-05 but the boo-hoos are out about D3.

Drove through campus yesterday. The AUB has plenty of work left to do...maybe a delay due to the pandemic wouldn’t be the worst of possibilities. Those damn giant ventilation pipes still stick-out like a sore thumb. ;-)

The new Phillips Hall looks great! Showker is completely covered with scaffolding...it will be interesting to see when the work is complete how they’ve updated that ugly exterior.

I’d complain if JMU WBB scheduled a bunch of D3’s, but I’m certainly not going to expect our biggest loser program to meet my scheduling expectations. Also, at least our new coach balanced some of those out with games versus GT & Florida.

Technicality but 2 non D1s which is what others do. Bridgewater is an exhibition before the start of the season. Happy to see 3 P5 games. That’s a big improvement over the last several years.

Don't recall the exact breakout, but coach was speaking more in terms of likely Quad 1, Quad 2 type games, and it sounded like an ambitious schedule for the first year. Coach is definitely a "bring it on" guy who won't back down from any opponent, but he did warn that it may be harder to get as many of the P5's booked once the wins start coming.

Here's the problem, the D3 games get us nothing, it's as if we don't play the games. If we were as competitive as an example, VCU, then one or two of those wouldn't be that big of a deal.

There's a dadgum good probability of loosing the GA Tech, UVA, and Florida games. That's 0 & 3 before the season begins. If we can manage to win 50% of the other D1 games that's 4 & 7 which is not going to wake up JMU Nation.

We need a winning D1 OOC record to wake up our fan before conference play begins. Otherwise, we may as well play our home games on the new practice court and let our girls have the new arena to themselves.

This is a very valid point. The casual fan needs to be able to Google the schedule and not see us 4 to 5 games under .500 going into conference play otherwise they’ve already lost interest.

I think this is a comment that would be more valid in the summer of 2021. The coach isn’t taking over a winning program. And he’s not Bruce Pearl. He needs wins, not for the W-L record or exciting fans. He needs wins to teach the team how to win and have their confidence grow.

Exactly. Newsflash, but this team was never going to get an at-large. We have been one of the absolute worst programs in the country. We need Ws. We have a lot of new pieces to the puzzle. I am not even remotely surprised we have some D-IIIs on the schedule. I would much rather face an easier opponent so our guys can work on the fundamentals of team play (because they sure as hell aren't getting a lot of that at the moment) than get humiliated by another D-I team and losing fan interest in year one of the Byington era.
We need to establish a culture of WINNING. The fans we need to get back aren't going to look at more wins on our schedule and say "all those wins were against D-IIIs" because those fans that we need back aren't paying attention to those things.
This is where we are right now. We need wins and confidence. Byington knows what he's doing. If we are in year 2 or 3 of his time here and we are still seeing a ton of D-III's on the schedule then perhaps I might be more upset about this.
Remember the focus:
-Bring back fans
-Improve the team
-Fix what has been broken for decades
I remember we used to play D-II schools all the time in football and we were tired of it. We don't do that anymore. When those D-II schools were on the schedule, was the stadium empty because nobody cared about playing D-II schools? Nope, and in fact it was full. Why? Early season and fans come to cheer for JMU. We won those games and fans came back. This isn't rocket science.

Do not disagree, but those wins could just as easily be against Western Carolina, UNC-Ashville, etc.

Hard to say what the home court advantage will be this season based on the pandemic, if fans are allowed at games, what restrictions may be, what impact the JMU school schedule may have on students even being around or on break. There are a lot of variables that obviously they couldn’t anticipate but the intention was to have a lot of home games in year one in the new arena. In doing so you usually give yourself a better chance to win. The UVA game was always going to be a tough one to compete and win but I think they wanted to at least get their feet under them as a team before playing them (hence the start of the year against lesser competition). At Florida is a tough game but later in the OOC where the team has started to gel a little more. I think at Ga Tech is a better chance to steal a game at a P5 and in doing so JMU nabbed an additional two winnable home games vs Mount St Mary’s and Longwood.

Even with the P5s and recognizing that ODU and Mason are tougher rivalry type games with them being at home and the other OOC games I think it’s likely JMU will have a winning OOC record. Fordham Radford Longwood Maryland East Shore Mount St Mary’s - even at ECU those are games JMU should win.

Reminder that before going off the rails Last years JMU team had a winning OOC and won on the road at ODU and Fordham. No reason this years team that will be better coached and I believe better balanced on the floor can’t do even better.

It would be so simple if JMU could just dictate their schedule. Oddly enough it takes two teams to agree and fit availble OOC openings.
