8t. NC State

If I were to bet money on 5 of these 10 schools to make AAU:
Boston College
Georgetown
Georgia
Stony Brook
UC Merced

Without a med school, it's hard to see a path for BC. USNWR rankings don't count for much with the AAU.

Speaking of med schools, both UGA(Georgia) & 'Bama have one, but don't get credit for it because it's in a partnership with another medical school. Meanwhile, UAB has an excellent medical school in its own name, and still can't get in!!!

TF8693, how about based on ARWU rankings??

Stony Brook is already an AAU member. ARWU rankings are based on total research, while AAU normalizes research for the size of the faculty. Lots of Southern schools are competing for openings (if they arise)…Georgetown, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest, NC State, Georgia, and Florida State all have strong research credentials.

How come UAB doesn't have stro g research credentials??
UAB does a lot research per the National Science Foundation website…#44 in the country.

I don’t know the other metrics metrics used by the AAU.

UAB is pretty high on the AAU's internal rankings. But the fact that it is almost all from the medical school means they aren't likely to get an invite. All 3 non-specialty schools (all but Rockefeller, UC-SF and Yeshiva) and 10 schools ranked beneath them at the time Nebraska got voted out have since been admitted to the AAU.
