Per Politifact
Medved said that police kill more whites than blacks. In absolute terms, that is accurate. However, the statement ignores that there are more than five times more whites than blacks in America. When comparing death rates, blacks are about three times more likely than whites to die in a confrontation with police.
I'm white and I've never had any interaction with the police, except for saying hello. Given the different socioeconomic statuses of white and black people, black people are (I would guess, I'm happy to be told differently) more likely to interact with the police. If you want to find a bias then you should probably compare similar socioeconomic groups to each other. I'm not saying that white people are treated the same as black people by the police, just that neither your nor SuperFlyBCat's statistics tell the whole story.

It's pretty simple, just look at the crime stats, violent crimes in particular.

You've made a mountain out of something that was really more an observation or simply an open question with a simple answer.
Do what the cop says. It'll likely end better for you. Are they all angels? Of course not. Are some complete a-holes? Of course, I posted just one instance where I could have been shot myself for absolutely nothing at all. But it really is that simple. Do what the cop says, you aren't Billy-badass, you just aren't.
So if the cop is going to randomly taser you...do nothing?
Is that really what you are saying???
That's the spirit way to make an idiotic comment. !!
The perp has been tased for resisting arrest.
News flash,...Tasers don't work. This is. Prime example.
Then the dude ran while both he and the officer were entangled with the taser wires.
Officer then fired weapon after being disrespected and assaulted by a common punk that had a rap sheet and doesn't pay for his children.
Another police shooting. White on black. Not good.
Eye witness at the scene stated that the officer and Scott were fighting for the Taser as it was on the ground.
The vehicle did not belong to Scott. Scott could not produce registration or insurance regarding vehicle. We will find out if vehicle wax stolen her soon.

Failure to comply with an officer's orders is not punishable by death in any jurisdiction in America. And it is certainly not punishable by death without a trial. So your comment is moot.
It's true that officers have the right to use deadly force in some circumstances, but you didn't address that.
Well, no schit. But i wouldn't imagine this is a risk any sane person would like to force to chance. If a cop tells you to do something, discretion is the better part of valor.
Sure you can challenge them, sure you can scream about "what you rights" are, or what he can and can't do. Go 'head. You may also get a club upside the head or even worse.
Cop says stop. Stop! Pretty simple rule far as I can tell. This guy would probably still be alive. But, you? You do what you want. Hope that works out for you.
What does that have to do with the police officer's actions? Yes the suspect should not have resisted and he likely broke the law by doing so and he should have been arrested and punished in accordance with our laws for doing so. And, yes, if he hadn't done so, he'd still be alive. However, he did resist and, at that point, the officer had a choice of how to respond and responded by shooting the man 8 times in the back. A trial will determine whether that choice was murder but many seem to believe it likely was (absent all the facts).
Like you, I would not resist in that situation. But, unlike you, I don't believe that any resistance entitles the officer to do whatever he wants, including 8 shots to the back. There are times that the officer is justified using such force to stop a fleeing suspect as discussed in this thread but "do everything a cop says or the cop is justified to shoot you" is, in my opinion, a terrible standard for society.
I don't think anyone is saying that. HOWEVER, resisting arrest or assaulting an officer is sure-fire way to escalate an incident and lead to an officer needing to make quick decisions of life and death. If you just go along with the program, the worst thing that can happen is that you get arrested. If you resist arrest or assault an officer, then officers are wondering why and being extra cautious about any extra movements you make. That's usually how these shooting happen.

RE: Another police shooting. White on black. Not good.
When the trial occurs (years or months from now), the former LEO will most likely get manslaughter. This was a situation where he made bad judgment after he made a traffic stop (I've been to North Charleston, it's a ghetto *** neighborhood. Very disrespectful individuals towards everyone), suspect is driving a car that isn't his, vehicle owner isn't in the car, Mercedes in ghetto neighborhood, doesn't posses registration or insurance, driver steps out of vehicle when not instructed to (EVERYONE knows you NEVER step out of a vehicle when stopped by the police), then the driver bolts and runs 600 feet until the taser is deployed and there is a scuffle on the ground for the taser. The taser is no longer in possession of the former LEO.
The next question is critical and unfortunately a mystery .......
What happened on the ground? Did the suspect gain control of the taser? Did suspect reach for something in his waistband? Was the officer hit in the head? Was there bruises on the suspects hand that articulate the suspect hit the former LEO head? Did officer have dirt/sand in his eyes (they were wrestling in area that did not have grass. North Charleston topsoil is very sandy)?
Former LEO then begins to upholsters his weapon approximately 10 feet away and engages on the target.
If the officer believes he saw something in the waistband is critical as is what happened on the ground.
At the end of the day, it's a tragic event. Two families lives have been ruined. I think a few things can come out from this that EVERYONE can agree .......
1. Body cameras (obviously if funds available should be used and placed on LEO).
2. Also it should be influenced for drivers to have body cameras themselves to protect from corrupt LEO. (body cameras are as cheap as $100.00). When I see EVERY teenager today (of ALL races) with a smart phone and new clothes on their back.
3. ALL citizens when renewing their license or obtaining a new license MUST pass a class on the procedures on a basic traffic stop. Stiff penalties must be imposed when procedures are not met (lost of license, $$$$ massive fines) etc ............. WHY HAS THIS NEVER BEEN THE NORM?

Cost effective???? This would be a standardized test with 10-15 questions during initial testing of DL or 7 year renewal! The cost would be minimal if any!
This isn't knee jerk reaction. This is something that should have taken place 40 years ago!
RE: Another police shooting. White on black. Not good.
You cannot fix stupid or legislate it out of existence. Charges were brought against the Officer too hastily. However, with the advent of the "video" that only presented the reality of the situation and end result some charge had to be made.
The officer did not intentionally profile Scott. He was just doing his job with the routine traffic stop and conducted himself in a professional courteous manner.
Flip side, did Scott provide the officer with any where near the same amount of respect?
As far as the Police being held at a "higher standard" blanket statement. Why? These people are just plain "Joes" with families and credit card debt, rent/mortgage and car payments. They are performing a JOB that has risk and suffer contempt from a good percentage of the population for a very small amount of pay.
The officer conducted himself much better than Scott. Furthermore, truth be told, the officer doesn't have the outstanding warrants or a previous history of breaking the law like Scott earned during his 50 years. Funny how you can "purchase a car" but not pay child support! Just observing his character, that's all! I am sure his parents were proud of him all these years!

RE: Another police shooting. White on black. Not good.
How could you possibly you say he indeed did profile Scott?
The officer was conducting a routine traffic stop, due to the law. The vehicle had one of the three brake lights not functioning. His job is to pull the offender over. This is in the officer's job description and duty?
But the proof of Scott's character is out there on the dash cam and court record.

How do you know that this officer didn't let other people with broken tail lights go but decided to stop this man because he profiled him?
I'm not saying he did that but how could you know he didn't?

I will bring it to your level then. Why does a school teacher take role in class? Must be profiling huh? Same logic right?
Show me where shooting a man who is running away 8 times in the back is within the requirements of his duties.
RE: Another police shooting. White on black. Not good.
Answer my question first. You never do.
It should be easy to understand that once you assault an officer, after you cannot prove ownership of a motor vehicle. Then grab and wrestle for his Taser, per eye witness testimony, and then attempt escape a second time and never comply......well then you open yourself up to many different possible reactions from a person with a badge/ weapon and the authority to use it.
Only hit Scott 5 times, fired 8 rounds. Get your stuff straight.
