You're gonna be a long wait for train that's not coming.
Since Reid's outta here... Yucca Mountain is being revisited.... Once that is settled, we'll be off the Nuclear generation again.
That is one option that would definitely get things moving. But ultimately we don't need to bury it. We need to be allowed to reprocess spent fuel as they still contain fissionable material.
Good point and thanks.

Please tell me how mother nature is going to pose a threat to our national security?
Here's a couple of scenarios
1 - Warmer temperatures (already happening) causes the icepack in the Himalayas to be reduced by 50% (well on our way there). Water rises by 3 meters (most think it will happen). Three nuclear powers desperately depend upon that rain melt to sustain literally over a billion of their citizens (India, Pakistan, and China). Basically, India and Pakistan get zero rain for much of the year and depend upon the Ganges, and the Indus to sustain them in the dry season. They don't get along either and all have competing claims to the icepack region. Add in some new instability created by 20-30 percent of Bangladesh (population - over 100 million) falling underwater. So, you'll have 50 million+ displaced persons in the Indian subcontinent alone, and fighting between China, India, and Pakistan over water. And its not just water for drinking, but water for agriculture and industry. Food supplies will be a problem.
2 - Massive disruptions to the food supply resulting from differentials in rainfall patterns.
3 - Large numbers of displaced persons resulting from higher sea levels. And this will cause all kinds of territorial fights.

All within the realm of possibilities. But how does carbon taxes, wind and solar power mitigate that possibility?

Mountain ice packs won't contribute as much as you suspect. Even if they did, the resulting conflicts would be a limited threat to US national security and more of a regional problem.
In the event of a 3 meter rise like your example, it would likely be the polar ice caps melting to produce such a rise, but polar caps are the least understood of the major sea level rise causes. As noted below, new technology has cut ice loss estimates in half.
Quote:By far the biggest question remains how fast and far the polar ice sheets will melt. For this, researchers have one key helper: the Gravity Recovery And Climate Experiment (GRACE). Launched in 2002, these two satellites detect the mass of the ground beneath them, and so can be used to monitor the changing weight of the ice caps. "GRACE was a game changer," says Jerry Meehl, a climate modeler at the U.S. National Center for Atmospheric Research in Boulder, Colorado. "Before that they were guessing."
Even GRACE is not clear-cut, however. The satellites detect the end result of a combination of effects, including the change in mass caused by the shifting crust and mantle, increased snowfall, and loss of ice from melt or iceberg calving. So results are open to interpretation: The 2012 GRACE estimate for ice loss from the Antarctic was just half the best guess from 2006.
http://e360.yale.edu/feature/rising_wate...rise/2702/
Another problem is that the satellite data on sea level only goes back to 1993, meaning many models are based on extremely limited data.
Scientists are all ove the board on sea level rise fun to the limited data and wide range of predictions. Will sea level rise again? Of course they will. A few thousand years ago they was 3-5 meters higher. They will rise and fall in the future just as thwy have in the past amd there isn't anything we can do about it.

It's a fact. Just look up Al Gore's business dealings.
Right...I forgot Al Gore was a broke homeless man before he invented the internet and made all his money on global warming initiatives.
I guess that $200+ million from carbon credits just fell into his lap.
