This is no Ferguson. The police chief said this video "sickened" him. The police officer has been charged with capital murder. I just saw a video that seems to show the officer planting evidence after the shooting. This officer appears to have just shot down the poor guy in cold blood. All the libs and race baiters will have a hard stretch making this another Ferguson or New York City.

I heard on 1010 news this morning that Al Sharpton was going to SC to be there for the family.

Basically he is going to RACE BAIT and say that all white cops are the devil.

Al Sharpton needs to go pay his taxes!!!

So, no. You didn't read the post to which I was responding. What a weird way to wade into a part of a conversation you either weren't a part of or simply can't understand.

Here, let me help you out...

Failure to comply with an officer's orders is not punishable by death in any jurisdiction in America.

Get it now?

No, I understand perfectly, but just stating you agree with that doesn't negate the fact you follow it up contradicting that stance by deflecting blame onto the victim.

03-lmfao What utter bullschit.

You're too cute. Stating something that should be obvious to any sane thinking person is NOT "deflecting blame on the victim", and I've done nothing of the sort.

"Running isn't punishable by death in any jurisdiction in America."

No question or doubt about that, BUT running can certainly escalate the situation and will likely (about 99% of the time) lead to a less favorable outcome for the suspect.

So why do some still decide to take flight? And what can be done to convince people not to do this? To obey a lawful order.

In all three of these more recent "public" cases, Ferguson, single sales and now this, compliance would likely find all 3 of these guys still alive.

You get it now?

Maybe you ain't as cleva' as you *sniff* think you are...

I don't know why you guys keep pointing to my age like it's relevant/a compelling argument, because your viewpoints are those of an angsty 15 year old boy. Your point isn't difficult to understand, and it's not as nuanced as you want to believe it is.

You're just not willing to address the fact that claiming he escalated a situation by running, and feigning interest in stopping some epidemic of people running away is ludicrous. It's like claiming we need to teach driving better after a women is shot in a road rage incident that started when she accidentally read ended the her murderer. The two aren't related, even if one indirectly lead to the other outcome. His wife could have had PMS that morning, could have put him on edge, should we try to better education on lessening their symptom burden so this doesn't happen again?

Or, maybe, we need to stop deflecting elsewhere and look at the training, vetting, payment, and institutional culture of the people pulling that trigger?

I am so sick of this "why/what reason did he have to run?" talking point. The guy who shot the video stated that he heard the taser going off BEFORE the guy started running away.

And also there's a big gap between "running is escalating the situation" and a cop shooting someone like that.

IT'S NOT SUPPOSED TO BE NUANCED IN ANY WAY SHAPE, MATTER OR FORM. IT SHOULD BE AS OBVIOUS AS THE NOSE ON ONE'S FACE, THAT'S THE POINT. Geeeeezus.

Yet for some, apparently it's not. It's the lack of respect for authority, breakdown of societal norms and order, false and poor messaging and narrative being put out there consistently from those in the public eye from our politicians to our "entertainers" and others.

F#$% the Po-po!!! What do we want? Dead cops, when do we want them? Now! Snitches get stitches. How to talk to Police- Don't. etc etc.

This isn't that hard...

That's certainly one side of it.

It's a social war and the cops/robbers is the frontline. It always has been.

You've made a mountain out of something that was really more an observation or simply an open question with a simple answer.

Do what the cop says. It'll likely end better for you. Are they all angels? Of course not. Are some complete a-holes? Of course, I posted just one instance where I could have been shot myself for absolutely nothing at all. But it really is that simple. Do what the cop says, you aren't Billy-badass, you just aren't.

See, you keep repeating the non-bolded part of your point as if anyone disagrees with you there, but no one does. it's when you get to the bolded portion that your conclusion go haywire. It's not that simple, people are going to run from the police. What do you think we can possibly do about peoples desire to evade arrest? Certainly, we should aim the discussion towards the trained professionals who are killing them for doing this, yes? Do you understand this painfully simple and completely obvious point yet?

Oh, I agree 100%. Just opining on the wall to wall TV coverage. If it was white on white or black on black I'm pretty sure it may have received a second of coverage and then be heard of no more.

No. I think there have been situations in the past where you might have been right, Ferguson and the Zimmerman thing for instance, but I think what's giving this legs is the video. It's just, awful, it's a person being murdered. Let's not mince words, whether or not he will be found guilty of murder in a court of law, that person didn't need to die. It's a clear video, in high definition, showing a police officer shooting a fleeing man and yelling at him to put his arms behind his back afterwards. It's a video of him moving evidence after the fact. It all of that which is giving this legs.

*sigh*

you seem to think someone, anyone, anywhere is defending what this cop did. Errr, nope. Not here anyway. And what is painfully and completely obvious is that in ALL THREE of these high profile cases, as I have already stated repeatedly above EACH of these individuals would be alive had they not resisted/disrespected/flat out attacked the cop(s) in the first place. These "trained professionals" aren't killing "them" for "this", all three instances were completely different except for the one commonality...

Now, will better training help? Perhaps, but these become high profile for a reason. There are interactions a million times a day and nothing remotely close to this happens at all, these are clearly the exceptions. But sure, lets give them some additional training, probably can't hurt.

What do we do about the other part of the equation?

Yet for some, apparently it's not. It's the lack of respect for authority, breakdown of societal norms and order, false and poor messaging and narrative being put out there consistently from those in the public eye from our politicians to our "entertainers" and others.

last year? Something like that. No mention of Fitbud's Brown tribe.

Per Politifact

Medved said that police kill more whites than blacks. In absolute terms, that is accurate. However, the statement ignores that there are more than five times more whites than blacks in America. When comparing death rates, blacks are about three times more likely than whites to die in a confrontation with police.
