RE: "Give 'em a good punch!"
Regardless of how much he says he "joked" or supposedly apologized, these types of individuals are odious representations of a church. Churches should be trying to be inclusive, not divisive.

A gay kid's already trying to fight off private feelings of shame and self-resentment, let alone the immediate flack he'll take from bullies if one word of his sexuality gets out at his awful school. Therefore the last thing he'll want is to come home to parents admonishing him or trying to 'fix' him.

If I were a parent of a gay kid, and should there be a judgement and afterlife, I'd like to go into that knowing I treated this gay kid with as much love/understanding and encouragement as I did a straight kid, regardless of what a few biblical passages might infer. It's just the right thing to do.

Mat 10:24 - "Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword."

Not saying the rhetoric of beating people you disagree with is acceptable but to me its as *unacceptable* as a waterd down "I'm ok your ok" version of Jesus that some of the mainlines are pushing

Brainwashing your kid into thinking that they are going to spend an eternity burning in a lake of fire for loving who they want and being true to themselves is pretty despicable. Banishing him to a life of guilt, shame, and pain - - yeah, that's the "right" thing to do. A good thing many kids raised in that environment eventually grow up and learn to think for themselves.

It's actually Matthew 10:34 03-wink And it's referring to loving anyone in your household more than Jesus (God).

Meh... "Just another dead fag" as Tori Amos sings in "Taxi Ride", about the death of a gay man. These folks don't give a $hit.
