Title IX
Ok, so not necessarily something that goes in the Spin Room, but I figured I'd get more looks. But Title IX, as it applies to sports generally, means that spending and support for men and women's athletics must be equal if they have separate levels of competition (i.e. men's and women's basketball). Well, football doesn't have multiple levels, so women are allowed to participate. What's stopping schools from not having women's programs all-together and just making all sports co-ed?

RE: Title IX
Its bigger than that. Its MOSTLY about scholarship and opportunity... and not merely money. If there were women at your school clamoring to play football, or for that matter, softball, you might have to start a team. There is a basic formula, which is why softball and volleyball are full schollies but baseball is partials... and womens basektball has more scholarships... but each school can vary somewhat from the formula based on the need/demand from their students. You also don't have to pay a women's coach what you pay a men's in basketball as an example... but if you are in the top 20 of men's coaches salaries, you probably should be close to the top 20 in womens as well.

Given the right's war on women, it doesn't surprise me that we have a rigthwinger trying to take more away from women.

Where did I say I would try to take away from it? I think a lot of college athletics as a whole are a waste of money, men's and women's included. I'm just saying liberals would throw the biggest fit about women and men trying out for the same team.
