Wow, you're going to have to explain that one to me.

i didn't mean this year. i meant the last 3 years. a second baseman with a .300 average and 20 homers is always valuable. that's a heck of a hitter. but if that's not good enough, i'll give another example. when healthy, nick johnson is a heck of a hitter. I think "heck of a..." falls between jose vidro and randy winn.

When I think of a "heck of a hitter" I think of someone that can do it all. Hit a jack, attack the alleys, go the opposite way. I immediatly think of Michael Young. I too think Marcus Giles is a great hitter, before this year he could do it all, he was awesome at spraying the ball across the field.

The guys that I consider a "heck of a hitter" are the ones that are tough outs. I have the most respect for hitters like Dave Roberts, Bill Mueller, Edgar Renteria, David Eckstein, Craig Counsell, Scott Hatteberg and others who never give the pitcher anything. These guys aren't necessarily big stars, but they scare me just about as much as the Barry Bonds' and Albert Pujols's of the world.

I don't consider Marcus Giles a great hitter because he gives away too many AB's early in the count.

i'm not sure i agree. i mean, hatteberg isn't much of a hitter, nor is roberts, they're just annoying.

i agree that giles isn't a great hitter, but when healthy, he can rake.

I see Hatteberg alot because he plays for the Reds and he can flat out hit. He's hitting something like .320 this year. He is the Reds best pure hitter.

I think Michael Young, GDawgs thinks Dave Roberts it just goes to show how much gray area there is in this topic.
