Yep.

Like I said in my comment above.

Meet the new boss, same as the old boss.

Yeah, you're right. I hadn't scrolled down to see yours when I posted that.

Mixed feelings on that one, CJ. America did not do that all by itself.

But even if we agree about what happened in 1953, it’s not why the ayatollahs took over in 1979, or why they are still in power in 2026.

No the CIA had Mi6’s help.

The coup in ‘53 helped the Iranian people see the US as their enemy. This continued during the Shah’s reign. By the time of the Islamic Revolution the resentment for America was widespread. Since the Ayatollahs seized power they’ve fed the Anti-American sentiment.

The idea the United States needs to be involved in Iran is foolish. Stay out of the Middle East.

Again, that's why I posted the chorus to "Won't Get Fooled Again" by the Who. I'd love this time to be different than the last and that, like you said earlier, allows the Islamic Republic of Iran to pivot to being more of an actual republic. Reinstalling the Shah might be an option, but like someone said, that would breed resentment from the young Iranians, which would create a vicious cycle. We're better off letting things play out naturally. (Or as naturally as possible.)

If the Iranian people rise up, and it’s an organic uprising, I don’t have a problem with America providing aid. Beyond that stay out of Iran.

We were still giving aid to Afghanistan when Trump took office. At least the Persians aren’t quite as radical but they’re still Muslims. Just make sure the next dictator understands they to will get the B2 treatment if they resurrect the nuclear bomb plan.

Unless the military gets on the protestors side nothing will come of it. The government has the bullets and it's no mystery that they would squash any revolution without pity. That's what happens when a country doesn't have a second amendment.

Another thing, I don't know if todays youth would want a king again. Maybe there's some Leftists like ours in their group...LOL. They would be protesting like our nutjobs about No Kings too.

Yep

But also, it shows why countries that still live in the past of 1,400 years ago do no belong in the modern world.

It's an odd set up. The military is more like its own separate branch of government. And remember, Israel took out nearly all of their top leadership in one day last summer.

They are walking a fine line right now. Can't afford any conflicts with other countries and can't afford any additional problems inside the country. Mullahs are taking more of a moderate stance on these protests right now because a flash point will get them all killed.

I’ve seen these kinds of protests in Iran peter out after serious crackdowns start. But this time might be different. I feel like the covert actions of the Mossad and the US-Israeli air attacks may have weakened the regime enough for the Iranian people to finally wrestle control of their nation away from the religious extremes.

This will go nowhere without the military's support. Peaceful Coups are a thing of fairy tales

Or if the military essentially just stands aside—like we saw during the Arab Spring. One thing different this time, sounds like AK’s are showing up in the crowds. Mobs apparently are hitting police stations and military armory’s looting the weapons stored there. I don’t remember past Iranian mass protests ever featuring weapons.

If'n I was one of the protestors with a rifle and it was obvious that I would be caught I'd blow my brains out first. Those muslims don't take this kind of crap and will punish drastically...as in torture to the max.

RE: 2026: Keep an eye on Iran
If people are taking rifles from the armories, I'm not sure they are worried about being caught.

This isn't just a political protest. Due to run away inflation and a crashed currency the middle class have to devote up to 80% of their salaries right now just to buy food. Non-idealogical Iranians are worrying about starving. That's a recipe for uprising.
