Sucks, but not unexpected
Not expected for sure as his skillset is not the right match for this offense. I hope he lands somewhere that is better for him.

Demone Green and Drayden Dickmann to the portal as well. Dickmann in particular hurts.

Green will be a grad transfer with 2 years of eligibility.

High school recruiting is only the tip of the iceberg. Tulane had 34 incoming transfers for 2025 while North Texas had 37. These players had a much bigger impact than their other recruits. We're certainly going to lose some talent but must make it up and then some with the transfer portal. IMHO last year we lost this battle.

Chris Knauls Jr signed today. De-commit from Michigan State and had the most offers I’ve seen from any Rice recruit. Quite a get for Abell and company. He big could he start as a freshman?

Offers from Texas Tech, Utah, Colorado, Kansas State, Houston, Cal, and OK State. I definitely think he could get in the rotation if the offers are indicative of his talent!

It’s hard to tell on schollies. My guess is as many as 10, depending on when they start (spring or fall) and also potentially working out other finance details (moving a grad student who is ‘done’ off of athletics and on to another form.
Best to say, no room for ‘flyers’ but still some room.

Interesting Troy Aikmen said he is through with NIL in college football. He gave a significant amount of money to certain players at UCLA and they left the Univ and didnt even say thank you to him.

This thing is going to get worse before it gets better.... and IMO, Rice will not be reactionary, but will instead 'stay the course' and do the best we can within relatively normal confines. We will not engage in venture cap funding, we will not 'sell out' our future to 'win now' in the hopes of getting an invite to a future dance that a) isn't coming and b) could cost us our souls.
We will support these athletes across the board and play by the rules... and IMO, likely continue to improve in this scheme... while redeveloping the stadium and attracting additional investment and opportunities... and come out on the other side in GREAT shape to continue to engage in AMATEUR athletics, even if they do get some meaningful NIL. If we do not continue to improve in this scheme, I expect us to invest in another one that emphasizes our differences and strengths and doesn't just chase the flavor of the week like everyone else.... running up the value of marginal coaching and player talents
but this is going to get real ugly, perhaps real fast

Rice signee Dionne Sims (RB - CE King) scored two rushing TDs in their win this evening over Vandegrift (58-41), and will now be playing in the State Championship game in Jerry World vs DeSoto.

I wonder if Rice is recruiting Keagan Ash from Mt. Enterprise in Texas, a small 2A school. He broke the rushing record in Texas that lasted 70 years. He is a big strong runner but not sure of his grades.

I think he is committed to Texas Tech.

He is -- but as a linebacker, apparently

Yes, as a linebacker is correct.
