Unless the US sends drones into the Mexican border towns and does what Mexico can’t. Clean up the cartels by killing them all. A two hour offensive would cripple their business.

Then warn if they start sending drugs, women and children across the border again, we’ll use the drones again.

This isn’t the Biden Administration. Trump is ready to put foot to as.

Pop quiz, where does the flow of Fentanyl come in to our country, and who brings it in?

You won't like the answer. 07-coffee3

So if there's a 25% tax imposed on importers bringing goods into the country from Canada and Mexico, who's going to pay it? You don't think they're going to pass that additional cost onto the consumer?

Or that the US producers won't raise their prices accordingly because they can now make a larger profit margin?

We have actual history that shows that the inflation was extremely small: Trump enacted targeted tariffs from 2017-2019 and it led to small marginal inflation gains in localized areas. Inflation remained steadily low which mirrored historical trends. Those targeted industries were 25% on steel and 10% aluminum. Specific to China, those tariffs ranged from 10-25%. Canadian lumber was 20%. Costs did increase in those areas.

Products that would now be affected that were not then would be: agricultural products, Canadian crude, pharmaceuticals, medical devices, and Chinese electronics. Temporarily enacting tariffs on these products isn’t going to create a deeper recession.

Trump also used these in his first term to get the USMCA deal done in late 2018. He is using this strategy again to put pressure on Canada and Mexico to work with us on drug trafficking and immigration, which are far greater issues than a small tariff.

I did read it. You're premise is that inflation would be small and quickly recede. My point is that these are not targeted tariffs.

And that paragraph actually sort of states that you expect a recession, but not a deep one. If so, you think taking the good economy that we have now and creating a recession...even a short or shallow one, is a good thing? 01-wingedeagle

My second paragraph lists the major industries and products that would be impacted with wide spread tariffs. They were not included in Trump’s first term.

The economy is already poor, but because of high interest rates from the previous administration + idiot Fed Chair.

It will take a year or two to fix what is fundamentally wrong with the economy.

Funny to see libs clutch their pearls over tariffs when most of them were all for Kamala's corporate tax increases which have the same effect on the price of goods and services and whose impact hits companies inside the country as well as outside.

The voters disagreed.

I’m aware that this includes all products, but I only included the sectors where the inflation rate measures. Food prices, energy prices, auto, etc. Not all industries/products are created equal and those products are optional buys for most people.

Nobody WANTS the tariffs. They have been used as a negotiating tactic to foster a trade deal or address other issues that are important as well.

Also, since when did inflation bother you? All of a sudden our government can cause it?
