RE: Matt vs McCarthy
Why doesn't Gaetz grow a pair and openly run for Speaker? Seems like he'd be a first ballot shoo-in with his people skills and trustability.

You mean they voted "With the Democrats".

Like Democrats, the curent RINO Republican rebels voted for someone other than Jordan---causing the Speakership to remain vacant. Just so everyone is on the same page----Gaetz and his group never voted for Jefffries either.

Gaetz is the only one who qualifies as a RINO since he voted with the Democrats to remove a Republican speaker. There are 8 who can't call anyone a RINO without looking as stupid as the people who still believe the Trump-Russia collusion theory.

Progress cant happen without change. Change and progress toward conservative goals is never ever going to happen with moderates and purple RINO's running the show. Those 8 are interested in a Republican conference that behaves in a more conservative manner---rather than being Democrat Lite. Sorry----Im all for that. If they had to break a few eggs to get there---so be it. Nobody is saying the purple RINO's cant vote in their their little Uniparty way----but they sure as hell should not be leading the Republican Party. The RINO's can be useful as a bipartisan bridge to compromise----but that bridge should come after we pass conservative legislation that reflects the goals of the Party. Its of course going to get watered down in a compromise with the Democrat controlled Senate----but dont start negotiating from the compromise position you hope to end up at. Start further to the right so you have some chips to give away during negotiations.
Or can backfire and the outrageous things that you know you will have to give away in negotiations come back to bite you in the ass.

Another day passes without a House speaker. One day closer to a government shutdown. Or Hakeem Jeffries as speaker. Those are the two options apparently

Democrats have a policy agenda. It is a harmful one IMO, but it is one. Then they have leaders who lead. That's how they avoid clusterflocks like this.

The last time republicans had a policy agenda and leadersip was Newt's Contract in 1994. How did that turn out? Pretty good, until they all decided to go chase Monicagate instead of govern.

No offense, but none of what you said actually matters for this congress.

Hasn't mattered for at least several congresses. And that's the problem.

There are reports that some no votes will flip to yes tomorrow, but also reports that some yes votes will flip to no.

I think McCarthy had 203 votes after his first vote. Seems like getting Jordan over the top is in the range of the doable. There is a lot more going on and much less time to fool around than there was in back in January when this process played out for McCarthy. I think eventually, the pressure from the media and from the voters back home on the whiners will eventually push this to a conclusion. Despite all the criticism of the Gaetz group---its instructive to note the Gaetz group never tried to cut a deal with Democrats and Gaetz did eventually negotiate an agreement that allowed a RINO Leader his group absolutely did not want and did not trust---to claim the gavel. Can the RINOs be grown up enough to do the same thing? So far---it doesnt appear so.

Yeah, I meant compared to how many voted against McCarthy when he was ousted. 8 Repubs voted against McCarthy. 20 voted against Jordan.

As for Jordan's chances, I don't have as much faith as you do.

My question is, if Jordan can't get it, who can?

You do all see where this is going, right? Did you not learn anything from McCarthy?

All that's happening is the GOP, again, playing with government solely to achieve a bunch of concessions from Jordan that if he does become speaker will hamstring him to a bunch of factions and special interest parties in the GOP to basically neuter him just as they did with McCarthy.

It's just embarrassing at this point.

Republican's can't govern. This will likely never not be true. :cofffee3:

Jordan is likely toast. Guys like Buck in Colorado aren't budging until they get someone on the ballot that they want.

Good let the government shut down, for every day it's shut down nobody in the House or Senate should get paid and their next deposit should show it. We put that money to pay off the massive debt they've incurred off the back of working Americans.

But that won't happen... The Democratic Party is working lock step as one.. The same policies under Pelosi would restart under Jefferies.

We have a split faction within the GOP. The conservatives and members of the Uniparty.. I don't think there's one person within the group that can unite both sides..

Isn't it in the constitution that Congress has to be paid even during shutdown.
https://www.cbsnews.com/news/government-...-get-paid/
"The reason is because of how their pay is treated under the Constitution and federal law. Article I, Section 6 of the Constitution states: "The Senators and Representatives shall receive a Compensation for their Services, to be ascertained by Law, and paid out of the Treasury of the United States." This means they must get paid whether or not other parts of the government are funded."

Doesn't matter. If Repubs can't coalesce around their own house speaker, and refuse to vote for Hakeem Jeffries, then the government will shut down and the blame will rightly fall on the Repubs.

They will get paid.
