Good let the government shut down, for every day it's shut down nobody in the House or Senate should get paid and their next deposit should show it. We put that money to pay off the massive debt they've incurred off the back of working Americans.

Isn't it in the constitution that Congress has to be paid even during shutdown.
https://www.cbsnews.com/news/government-...-get-paid/
"The reason is because of how their pay is treated under the Constitution and federal law. Article I, Section 6 of the Constitution states: "The Senators and Representatives shall receive a Compensation for their Services, to be ascertained by Law, and paid out of the Treasury of the United States." This means they must get paid whether or not other parts of the government are funded."
Over the head.. The people who create the problem still get rewarded for creating the problem..

Yeah that pesky constitution should just get rid of it right.

Again over your head.. Mr. Forward Looking...

We have a huge debt, we keep giving away money we don't have, but the people in the House and Senate can't seem to get their acts together to keep the government running and who gets the shaft, the ones paying the bill or the ones that are supposed to make sure the bill is paid.. Spoiler alert it's not the latter, so the government shuts down, who gets the shaft, the ones paying the bill.. We have National Parks shut down, services shut down, but those bozos get paid for not doing their job.

That is my point but again you can't comprehend because you don't look forward, you are force fed that our government is super and groovy, when in essence it's broken and nobody wants to fix it because those who are there only profit from it. It's both sides.

No, but it could be amended to provide that in cases of funding shortfall--lack of budget, debt ceiling, any reason--layoffs start from the highest paid person down.

It is.. Like I said the GOP is not lock step with each other like the Dems. While there's factions within the Dems, they are lockstep in what they want done.

The GOP seems to be split with conservatives and RINOs... Their visions are not aligned and I don't think there's someone who can unite them.

The only group in America that can vote and give themselves a raise will never vote to stop their pay.. Kinda like how they won't vote to impose term limits on themselves.

Where are the actual fiscal conservatives? I've yet to see anyone in either party actually attempt to balance the budget. That includes the MAGA reps.

It's all words to get voted in... My FIL knows one who claimed to be fiscal and wanting to balance the budget to get voted in and then once he got to DC he forgot. The next time he ran he called my FIL to see if he'd support him and my FIL said well you forgot to do your job, I forgot to send a check. Good luck.

Government shutdowns have no effect on elections. Biggest myth in politics.

We haven't had one last long enough. If you have one last more than a few days then you will certainly start having issues when the military and contractors don't get paid.

RINOs like Gaetz who are Republicans only when it suits them The party has true Conservatives like Cruz, Libertarians, Populists, Religious Conservatives, Moderates, Main Street Republicans, a small number of Main Street Republicans with TDS and a handful of Neocons who aren't Republican at all but are just checking the box for their DC job.

Yup. Several of us made the very point hundreds of posts upstream. Again, what is going to be different with someone other than McCarthy? The same divided GOP party with a razor thin House majority. The DEMS look the part while the GOP is stuck in the mud. Gaetz threw a tantrum and had to get his way to prove he took a stand. Look Ma, I DID SOMETHING! LOL. BTW, you haven't heard a peep from Mr. Greaseball since.

So if we get someone who's more like Gaetz and then someone doesn't like him, we're back in this situation again.

Hypothetically, if Gaetz got SOH and he got wind that a small breakaway group of GOP reps were going to work with the Dems to oust him...we all know damn well that he would play the "we must keep united for the sake of the GOP" card in a second.
