This is an American problem that basically doesn’t exist in other countries or is once a decade and not multiple times a year.
Yes and no.
We could probably reduce the number of casualties by getting rid of guns, but then the assailants just use other means. Not to mention that bad guys will have guns for decades while the law abiding citizens will be the only ones disarmed, and that would create chaos. Oh yeah, and there's that 2nd amendment.

So, we really need to focus on mental health and keeping weapons out of the hands of those who are unstable, which is a very difficult thing to do.
We need a secure storage law. If you keep your gun where your kid can get it, or in your glove box where it can get stolen then you face criminal charges if it is used. If it isn’t on your person it needs to be stored in an approved and locked container.
We need universal health care that includes mental health.
If I have a gun in my car under my seat and someone breaks the window and steals it I'm liable for criminal charges? What if they steal the car and use it in the commission of a crime, do I go to jail for that as well? Sorry but this is a non starter for me. If someone breaks in to my locked house or locked car then you hold them responsible for their actions not me. I don't want someone such as you determining what is the proper way to store my weapons. If someone is breaking into my house I need quick access.
They make quick access safes that can be cabled to the structure of the home. They make quick access drawer safes that can hold an AR or shotgun under your bed.
They make punch code safes that are custom fit to a lot of trucks. They make small containers that bolt to the seat bolts under the seats.
Yes, if you leave a gun in your backseat and it gets stolen and used in a crime you should be criminally liable.
You guys keep saying "Law abiding gun owners aren't the problem", which in a lot of cases is true. So law abiding gun owners need to take responsibility for their guns and keep them out of the hands of criminals.

I can agree with some of this..
As a responsible gun owner with a kid, my guns are always in a safe and when they're not they're only accessible by me...
Healthcare is not something the government should be involved in. Period. It's not my responsibility to pay for your mental health.
Do you want the government showing up to see if your guns are stored properly and confiscated if they deem they are not?
Do you want some government agency deeming you mentally fit to own a firearm.
Do you trust the government to do anything correctly?
No, it's quite simple. If you buy a gun and it is used in a crime you are criminally liable unless it was stolen from an approved storage container (showing you in good faith tried to secure it).
No one is coming to inspect, instead the law is enforced when your gun turns up in a kids backpack or sized from a crime scene. You guys are all about personal responsibility, this is all about taking personal responsibility when you own a gun.
How about lock up the criminals who are committing crimes with guns instead of just letting them go.
You keep harping on gun owners, but its criminals and the trans community committing these crimes.
How about anyone who told this person that being trans was ok be held criminally liable for this shooting.
What we need are common sense trans laws for the trans and those enabling them.

So, guilty until proved innocent.
Punishing the innocent again.
The shooter is the criminal. The person stealing the gun is the criminal.
Having a gun is not criminal.
Read that again.
Having a gun is not criminal.
It is going to stay that way. Any fantasy solution that depends on that is simply not going to happen.

So a locked auto doesn't qualify, how a locked auto and a locked glove box? You just want to criminalize as many law abiding people as possible. And this has nothing to do with Nashville you nut.

Now, narrow that down to how many countries of similar size and population yada yada? You can't treat this as an apples to apples comparison.
It is an American problem but when broken down by numbers these events are statistically insignificant.
From 2009 until 2018 the US had 288 school shootings.
The next highest country (Mexico) had 8.
Chicago had 5699 murders in that same time frame.. Again, take the weapons away from criminals before enacting laws that affect law abiding gun owners. Why ain't you harping on that? That's 5699 innocent lives snuffed out.
Wait.. Doesn't fit the narrative.
Thanks, I was looking for that info...

I'm look at the whole problem, not the individual situation. I also said we need universal health care and free mental health care, which might possibly have stopped the shooting in Nashville.
The state of US healthcare has a negative impact on the fabric of our society in a variety of ways. Financial issues are the #1 cause of divorce, and medical debt is crushing in this country. You think the traditional family values will help fix this? Then free health care lowering medical debt will keep more families together. Younger people feel hopeless about their future, there are no base level social safety nets in this country.
Millions of people in this country have mental health issues and no access to care.
Someone asked earlier up thread "why doesn't this happen in Canada"? Canada has health care, mental health care, and gun storage laws.

unfortunately for the libturds, this one checked the trans school shooter box........again.....
however, the proximity of the shooting to members of the forum likely has much more to do with the number of posts.
well, that and Tom tried to inject some of his snark and got kicked in the balls again. Thats always good for a few dozen additional posts, usually 3 in a row.

Anyone else wondering why we don't seem to hear anything about the transgender shooter's Father? Is the mom divorced? Separated? If so, how did their apparent family dysfunction play into the daughter's feelings of alienation? Seems when you mess with the traditional nuclear family, bad things have more potential to happen. But muh gubmint knows better....They's seems to be more here than muh media is reporting....

I haven't proposed anything that infringes on the second amendment. Nothing about a gun storage law infringes on your right to buy or own a gun.
I'm simply looking at real ways to stop the flow of guns to criminals. Stolen guns is a massive source of illegal guns. If we secure the legal guns and slow the flow of stolen guns to criminals then as criminals are arrested and their guns seized then the number of guns in the hands of criminals is reduced.

Would that have stopped the mass shooting in Nashville? Your post has nothing to do with this.
So, your solution is to give free healthcare and mental care to criminals, and lock up gun owners because someone broke into their house.
Its time for common sense trans laws.

I think you should be the first to actually go to someone's home and demand they turn over their guns.
That's the real "solution" they all want. Take away all the guns from 99.9% of all gun-owning law-abiding citizens.
Okay, if inanimate objects that are used to cause death and destruction are the real problem, then let's take away all motor vehicles and knives, while we're at it.
Even though, again, the overwhelming majority of the population uses those devices safely.
Why not focus on figuring out how to deal with the crazies instead? "Mental health counseling" isn't going to cut it, and in a free society, you can't (or shouldn't) lock up everybody who has a dangerous post or thought, so that leaves...
...tightened security in the most vulnerable areas, like schools, churches, sports arenas, shopping malls, etc. Duh...
Anybody heard about a plane hijacking lately?
We used to provide them with free room, board and medical care in highly supervised environments.
