Hmm has size but Not a ton of production at Nebraska Kearney. Normally I’d give the benefit of the doubt with previous coaching staffs at NIU, but this one has not been able to find talent or coach it up in the defensive secondary. Hopefully they surprise us or it’s going to be a long year again

Loading up on DII players seems like good strategy to upgrade the roster…Outside of RB, the recruits landed over the last six months or so have been completely lackluster. For a team coming off a 3 win season and a 30 point home loss to a one win Akron team I expected to see much better results from the portal. The updated roster still seems to have massive holes all over.

Maybe Ham is using the Monty recruiting gameplan by recruiting Div 2 and Juco transfers that really don't have the talent to play Div. 1.

Bigger kid who can run and cover. I don’t have complaints about giving a guy like that a shot.

Am I concerned he wasn’t 100% a starter? Sure. But he fits the huskie. He could play safety with that size. And if he can actually play corner that’s a steal.

Coach Ham in on Brady Allen? Former Purdue QB…

Also Jalen Daniels Former South Carolina QB

Question is are we super sure Rocky is back? Both those QBs are young so they could be next.

The more I look at this kid and watch some games of his here is what I’ve found:

He’s long, 6’3” is pretty darn close to legit. He lines up in press man from most of what I have seen. Does a good job getting in to the WRs he covers. The kids he played against seem fast enough. You’ll find with smaller schools, even down to DII, a lot of kids can run. A lot of QBs can’t throw. Kind of what you see here. But he is on his WRs most of the time. Gunner on special teams.

If Dabney and this Kid both end up here I think we are going to see a much more aggressive style from our corners. Gone are the kids who line up 8 yards off.

If that is what this signing is signaling- then I am all for it.

I'm not as knowledgeable about schemes like you are, when you say that "gone are the kids who line up 8 yards off" do you mean the that the coaches are playing them that deep because to compensate that they cannot chuck a WR at the line and then cover? Or are they lining up that deep on their own?

That's a great question, and honestly I don't know the answer. It appeared to me that Gandy never lined up close. Scheme (because of fear about his size) or player preference doesn't really matter which. You are not playing big corners 8 yards off or you are losing their built in advantage.

Kansas website has him listed as a Freshman. Played 11 games as a freshman in 2021 but, I believe, only got into 3 games this year. If that is the case, he'd be coming to NIU with 3 years of eligibility, correct?
