Opportunity Knocks for Shad Dabney.
Welcome!

Kansas website has him listed as a Freshman. Played 11 games as a freshman in 2021 but, I believe, only got into 3 games this year. If that is the case, he'd be coming to NIU with 3 years of eligibility, correct?

That sounds right.

He played in 11 and 12 games his two years at Kansas, so he is a true Junior, 2 years + RS if needed.

Every where I look says 3 games - but I wonder if the 3 games are the 3 games he recorded stats. Looks like he played on special teams.

The team stats for this season say that he played in 12 games. Very minimal stats.

Yeah. Figured as much. He played more as a freshman. The defense, outside of the line, is going to be darn near 100% different. (And I see sanders getting snaps on the line.)

Potentially 2 new safeties. Potentially 3 new backers (Rayner injury puts him as a ?) potentially 2 new corners.

Potentially new defensive coaches too? Still doubt there is any change there.

Derrick Jackson might be a guy to circle…

Not a sleuth or anything but he tweets most NIU recruits and stuff…been missing a few weeks…and no tweets about the corners we just added…his guys? Curious.

Didn’t notice that. Maybe got the boot right after signing day as that was basically the last he did anything on twitter. He was the one I was hoping was gone. Paid the most (I think over
200k) and got the least out of.

Could be nothing. Zero likes of anything, when the rest of the staff is out there…again, could be nothing but rare to see a coach vanish during some of these recruiting windows.

I am completely okay with this.

I will be extremely happy if we can get Jeff Knowles to come home....his track record as a linebacker coach and defensive coordinator was amazing

Akanimo Asuquo fits the mold of linebackers who thrived when he was here. Juwaun Johnson, Vero Beach, Kyle Pugh, Deveaux and so on.

At this point with the roster, how far could he have been down on the depth chart. You know Hammock is going to use, at a minimum, 4 running backs. If he was more than 4 deep, then that's on him. But Hammock rewards guys with scholarships who earn them and I'd bet dollars to donuts he doesn't end up with a scholarship on this move.

Either way, playing time or scholarship, I bet his best shot at either of those was here unless God really, really wants him to play JUCO football.

I get that these are young guys and are making decisions they think are in their best interest and are probably being influenced by people who really shouldn't be giving advice, but my goodness...that statement comes off as self-centered and ungrateful as could possibly be.

"Hey, I tore my ACL in HS and Coach Hammock still believed in me and gave me a spot on the team and helped me rehab and my teammates were great and accepted me and helped push me to get better and become a better football player and person.

And with all that said, I'm letting everyone know I am de-committing from all of that because I need to do what's best for me."

Well, have fun. I have no idea if you were on scholarship but I'd bet almost anything, if you weren't, you were closer to a scholarship with Hammock than wherever you end up next.

You're welcome for everything.

I recall 6 RBs in practice who regularly got snaps, all the way down to Nash. Maybe he was hurt, maybe he wasn't good enough. The RB room is competitive and some of these guys don't want to compete on a daily basis.

This is another great example of a poorly worded goodbye speech.

Davis Patterson. Notre Dame…Ohio

Productive in the one season he actually played. Appeared injured last season - not sure if he can get a redshirt or not. Originally a JMU recruit.

Big kid who can catch, I personally think he starts day 1 no problem on the outside.

I'm hoping Jalen Johnson gets healthy. They were feeding him the ball with the 2s and he got time with the 1s before injury.

Still agree with you NIU could use a #1

Lots of snaps out there for WRs. I like the transfer. I like the idea of Rudolph, but who knows with the injury, and I like Kasper. I would prefer start larger WR so Jalen Johnson could have a huge role.

Just an observation: Hammock is going after 3 more LBs in the portal - in addition to the one he landed. And we have Rayner whom I really like.

Feels like we might return to a true 4-3 base and save the nickel defense for true nickel formations.

I can’t imagine he is actively trying to bring in 4 backers while the goal is to play 1 next to Rayner.

Jalen has a younger brother Julian that Ham offered. DE/TE. Long athlete 6’5”. Hopefully he wants to play with his brother. 24 class.

Jalen has a younger brother Julian that Ham offered. DE/TE. Long athlete 6’5”. Hopefully he wants to play with his brother. 24 class.

We should have started Fletcher and gotten his brother to transfer here lol.

It’s like friending up the unattractive girl to get to know her attractive friend.
