RE: Men's Basketball Recruiting: 2021
you can either have a big dominant player and play low post basketball or mid size players that shoot the ball real well. We have neither. JJ recruits the mid size player and dares them to shoot. Kalu and Trice play as good as they can for their size but when they have to go up against bigger opponents they are at a disadvantage. It would certainly be nice to have a 6'11" big man in there to help them underneath. He doesn't have to be a scorer but defend and rebound is a must. That only frees up Kalu to olay his natural position a 4!. Trice is more of a banger and can fill in for both Kalu and the big man. Having someone who can shoot from outside occasionally would make things easier underneath also.

Much of this is how I see it as well, especially the darkened portions. Jeff seems to have a similar basketball philosophy as Blaine did - i.e. mostly half court man-to-man, slower paced half court offense with the post position playing a big part of the offense. If Jeff had a Laughton, Lee, or Hassell like Blaine did I believe his offense would look better than it has all other things being equal. Porter was a pretty solid post threat for Jeff especially during his last season here. Of course Blaine also had guys like Valdaus, Dahi, and Carter playing the 4 and helping out with the scoring, defense, and rebounding inside. Jeff has had guys like Taylor and Carver who both could defend and rebound pretty good, but never gave much scoring to the position.
Having a dangerous outside shooting team definitely helps the low post game as well, and it works the opposite way too. A strong post can create double teams opening up the outside for 3 point shooters. ODU unfortunately hasn't had many dangerous 3 point threats lately. One of the main detriments to having a smaller center match-up is that it causes Jeff to feel the need to double the post against us leaving an open perimeter shooter.

JJ lost his forth recruit. A 6'11 center is going to Georgia Southern. When you continue to lose to schools that are much lower than ODU, there is a problem in recruiting or ODU is not received well in mid-major recruiting. You need a staff that can put ODU, on the map,

He did not have a current offer from ODU. Curry was originally offered by ODU August 17th. That offer was pulled when we landed Stephan Morris August 21st.

That doesn't even make sense. We literally have a class of 5 guys coming in, one of which committed in the past few weeks.

You're wasting your time. If we don't have 3 seven footers coming in he's not going to be satisfied. No matter if they can actually play basketball.

RE: Men's Basketball Recruiting: 2021
Im not the biggest fan of JJ, but man, the guy has done a decent job with recruiting this year. We lost Curry and Reese but it could have been even worse (fingers still crossed that it wont be). I dont see any reason for the continually beating him (and the dead horse) up at this time. If Hunter steps it up as a PG, Wade comes back strong, and somehow a few of these freshman can contribute, we will be fine next season. We have a solid mid-major class coming in that addresses most of our needs. Stay on top of the recruiting situation in case things change unexpectedly, but at this point, he's done pretty good this year and I dont know what more could reasonably be expected of him.

They seem to have at least 1 or 2. They kept losing SF or Center's to schools lower than our level. Maybe ODU's level is now below schools like Wofford, Georgia Southern, Radford and many more, Gilesfan, you must be fine, the way our recruitment has gone for the last 8 years. I take it, that you are young in age!

I've heard we have 1 scholly available but no confirmation on that. That would imply one of the guys on the current roster is not coming back. I would love for the last one to be DeAntoni Gordon.
Im glad they rebuilt the backout this recruiting cycle, very much needed. I've read/heard they like Hunter off the ball so I think he's going to stick as a combo guard.

Y'all do realize that the most dominant big men to put on an ODU uniform in 30 years, since I've been watching, none were 6'10".
Odell Hodge 6'9"
Alex Loughton 6'9"
Frank Hassel 6'8"
Gerald Lee 6'9"
how many actually great bigs has ODU had 6'10" or higher?
