This one is actually 2021, but I don't see a thread for 2021 yet...

Rupert played for Maury and was the class 5 state player of the year last year. He also plays for Boo Williams.

6'6" 210 lb Forward

Not sure how accurate the offers are, but there are a couple big ones in there.

State POY and State Champion as a Junior at Maury. Listed at Miller School of Albemarle right now. Might be good that he falls off the high profile public school stage.

Sorry but The Miller school and other Private schools in that area are basketball factories and all P5 and other coaches know that. The issue with this kid is he is 6-6. He doesn't have the skills yet for a SF at the mid-major D1 level and is likely too small for PF. That tweener designation fits in this case. He reminds me of Chris Clarke.

I would take Chris Clarke in a heartbeat. Being undersized means nothing at our level.

Frank the Tank had absolutely zero skills before coming to ODU, great development with that young man.

Exactly...that is why I said what I did as to why P5 programs are likely not recruiting him heavily and he is a 2*.

Maybe our definition of "basketball factory" differs, but this is a list of recent and current players. Since 2010, they've sent one player to a program better than ODU.

I see Syracuse in 2012.
...Memphis 2010
...LSU 2018
...NC State 2012

Guessing you only consider 1 of those 4 programs better than us?

Regardless of whether they are sending kids to better programs than ODU, they are sending a ton of kids to play in college. That would seem to mesh well with the term basketball factory.

What is "our level", and whatever you perceive it to be, is it supposed to be our ceiling? When we play teams above "our level" are we supposed to be willing to be crushed by them because we accepted less.

In reference to the Maury kid ... maybe he will grow some into a more natural PF, maybe he will develop more of a SF skill set and be a good hybrid forward, or maybe he will use his size and quickness successfully against bigger power forwards to be successful at the position - assuming he can defend them at the other end which will likely be the greater issue.

Our level is G5 and hoping to win CUSA and get a tourney bid. You can't compete for recruits that are 6-10 and worth a damn (without significant development). The teams that are most successful take the undersize 6-5 power forward that is a baller but larger programs didn't want.

When is the last time that ODU had a successful team while starting a 6'-5" power forward?

Richard Ross was 6'6"
