Enjoy bringing more teams like Morgan State in.
And no Marshall thank goodness. A team from a "college" that was created so the steelworkers in Huntington could have a football team to root for. They have been irrelevant ever since they moved up.
Marshall had/has done more than JMU ever thought of doing. Won 2 National Titles when you had only made the playoffs 4 times then. Also Marshall was JMUs 1st playoff loss in 1987, 41-7.
Marshall:
8 playoffs from 1987-1996
29 total playoff games 23-6
2 National Titles
2 Walter Payton Awards
In the polls from 1991-1996 with no weeks out, 61 of those weeks either 1 or 2
#1 from week 1 to the National Title Game in 1996
IA
8 Conference Titles
3 Heisman Finalists
1 Sammy Baugh Award winner
1 Biletnikoff Award winner
1 Nagurski Award winner
Finished Ranked in the polls 10 out of 19 years, RV in 2 others
Finished Ranked 10th in 1999
4 1 loss seasons
Highest winning % at home in all of IA
27 Draft picks, 2 1st round and 6 2nd round picks
Best winning % in bowls with a min of 10 games
14 Bowl Games in 19 years
12-2 in Bowls
If Marshall never moved up we would have done what NDSU is doing right now but the school and admin had higher asperations than that. Everyone knew in 1988 when Joan C Edwards stadium was approved that we would be IA someday, that happened to be after the 1996 season.
Like I said enjoy bringing in more Morgan State's and sharing a conference with the likes of Rhode Island, Maine and Richmond. None of which has a football tradition. My guess is Stony Brook or Albany try and move to IA before JMU does.
