I like Oats too, but he is out of Tulanes league. He will most likely land at P5 school shortly.

I would definitely take Oats. Sadly, Mick has been a few recruiting battles the last few years with Buffalo, so he is already recruiting at Micks level. The upgrade to our program could only help.

We can file at least one of these in the fake news (non Russia related) department:

It's going to be really interesting to see our list of targets if Mick leaves.

I would consider Matta if his health checks out and he is mentally wanting back in. I would also look at Musselman. I am not sold on Oats yet, even though I think he is intriguing.

Matta? Are you serious? We already did the Tuberville thing on the football side. Musselman just massively underachieved with his best team, so that would be a very interesting hire.

I've never been a Matta fan, but yeah if he is serious about getting back into the game and he's available you'd absolutely have to consider him.
Not sure about the other two at this point. One thing I do like about Musselman is he's aggressive on the transfer market. He realizes going that route is his best chance of getting legit talent into his current program.

Chris Jans?
He seems like he has some potential.
One name I saw thrown out there on Twitter was John Thompson III if Mick bolts.
That would be interesting. Sure it's a similar style but he would probably recruit better and he had some nice teams at Georgetown, although his last few years weren't great. Didn't he make a Final Four with them?

Regarding Matta, the health thing is a BIG if. But absolutely you would have to consider him. At 3 different programs, he won 20 games or more 16 out of 17 years, with 13 trips to the NCAA tournament, reaching the 2nd weekend 6 times with 2 Final Four appearances. If what we all want is deep tournament runs, you're not going to find a guy with more experience doing that than Matta. And he's only 51, so he could conceivably coach here for another 15 years if he's healthy. If you take the shades off that color your perception of Thad Matta based on where he has coached previously, it's obvious the guy is great at what he does when he is 100%.

Yep. And he runs clean programs, and comes across as quite likable (again, taking the shades off).........

Matta is a great coach, great recruiter and would do well in Ohio at UC. IF healthy. If not, its a non-starter.
But we would see some recruits roll up on here and we would see some points scored.

Not that I think Mick is going anywhere, but...
regarding Thad Matta I think it would be a decent hire here if he was healthy. First off, it would not be a Tuberville situation. Matta is only 51 years old and has coached in the Midwest for his entire coaching career.
Second, he would immediately have name recognition and relationships with high school and AAU basketball coaches throughout Ohio, Indiana and Illinois.
Third, it would stick in Xavier fan's crawl.

Different circumstances. Matta is only 51. He fell off at OSU because of his back issues. I said "if" his health checks out I would consider him. I dont think he would be in the early retirement mode like TT.

I don't think so either. Thad Matta appears to have integrity, something Coach Tubs lacked in my opinion. I don't think Matta would come here unless he was 100% committed. I also think if Matta wants to coach, Cincinnati is a very attractive option given his ties to the area, our new facilities, and not having to take on a complete gut job.
