If anything the mountain west should go into Texas for some schools

If this list is true , UAB, FAU and UTSA would probably get in. I'd like to bring marshall with that group

If the Mtn West play doesn't work out (and I'm skeptical it will) then I'd be happy with this collection of 4 making the move to the AAC.
I would love that group.

I don't get why marshall wouldn't be considered. They are winning in football and have been better in basketball.

It's less about markets with this plan B highlighted in the article. UAB and FAU have each won 2 of the last 4 football titles . They aren't just market adds. And UTSA is improving a lot . Heck could be in the conference title game or even win it this year.

Among those teams under consideration are FAU and UTSA of Conference USA. Both are seen by some AAC officials as having the potential to becoming the new UCF -- emerging programs in a large, football-mad markets that could make a national splash under the right conditions.

The idea the AAC was going to have any success with this push was a fools errand. It's just a last ditch attempt to save that TV contract. Something they can get away with knowing that almost every other G5 team on the planet would take their invite.

You want to get to the AAC, MWC ? So far you still have to go thru C-USA.

This should give schools like Marshall a pause before going 'Belt.

Also with no Belt teams leaving they only have room for two-- maybe just one if they want FCS JMU.
Do you feel the chance is worth it over improving our league with Jim Delany assisting and an almost certain addition of some Eastern school(s)?

Marshall (and others) should just tell C-USA presidents--"We're leaving unless major changes occur". THAT will get action!

This is a wake up call for C-USA leadership (Presidents, AD's) and major changes will be made!

This is because the mouse is just looking to expand their inventory. No doubt the AAC has been told to avoid the Belt if at all possible and grab brands that they don't already have.

It is to ESPN's advantage to keep the Sun Belt a bargain basement conference. That's how they sell you on those weekday games.

The real issue is that neither CBS, Fox or NBC have been willing to outspend ESPN for P5s, or G5s so they aren't real competitors to Mickey and Co. Till they get serious about college football and actually pry away some whole conferences ESPN is going to stay a manipulative monopoly and the other networks are going to continue to aid and abet.

Unless schools like Marshall already know they’re not going to be invited to the AAC unless it burns to the ground and the MWC is a non-starter because…I dunno, they own a map or something.

In that case, schools like Marshall are kinda just sitting around waiting for everyone else to leave.

Look at what ESPN has been able to do to the conferences that step out of line. Oh Big East you want to take your inventory to open market? well good luck doing that without Syracuse, Pitt, Rutgers, West Virginia, Notre Dame. Oh Big 12, you went to Fox? Welcome to the SEC Texas and OU.

You're right that the other networks have to get serious about Football, but at the same time ESPN has literally destroyed conferences who don't do what they want.

You don’t have to look any further than this conference to know you don’t mess with the mouse.

I honestly do not blame them. People are moving to cities (in the South). Cities will only get bigger in the future. By 2050, 7 out of 10 people in the world will live in cities.

But as CUSA 3.0 has shown the team has to own or at least have a big part of that viewing city. That's not the case with UAB, FAU or UTSA and I actually like all 3 schools (yes even UAB).

When CUSA games have been shown that shows up on the ratings not one of those 3 schools draw very good numbers.

Even on attendance UTSA was below the 15k threshold and warned by the NCAA just a couple years ago.

Again I like FAU but someone is badly mistaken if they think Boca is the same as Mouse Land. The mindset of the people are worlds apart. Not saying it cant happen but its a huge longshot. The "New AAC" doesn't have a named school left in it or adding to it.

So I believe that's why its a mistake to even consider markets...unless a school has proven they can get a major share of it. Not one of those have came close to that but neither has any other CUSA school

I’d have WKU, La Tech and Marshall on my short list if I were making the decisions for the AAC. All three have shown the ability to remain competitive in multiple conferences, and none of the three are a drag on the major sports. I like being in a conference with these schools as a fan.

Thanks bud! We like being in a conference with y’all too. My school isn’t getting much love out there among these tweets and rumors these days! It’s a shame this is being driven NOT by performance among student athletes, but by corporate types.

That's exactly what we are doing. But the lack of action by CUSA HQ is what will eventually destroy the CUSA East division.
1. CUSA is the way it is because of the leadership in place. That leadership is in place because of the Presidents at our Universities. If you think Judy is awful, remember that your school’s President believes she’s doing a sufficient job. Complacency and mediocrity run deep in so many of our programs.

2. While I love the kind words from so many Eastern schools wanting us to come along with them on a new journey, USM has zero interest in playing any of y’all except Marshall. From what I hear, if AAC leaves us behind, we’re headed to the Belt.

Marshall and Southern Miss. Okay. Why ODU? Why go over 12 all-sports members and dilute conference revenue shares per school?

The one thing going for C-USA: the leadership (*gag*) has not played its hand yet. The Sunbelt is beating its chest, the AAC is out on a limb trying to poach big fish to a coast-to-coast conference, and CUSA is sitting tight.

CUSA may be able to pull top programs from the belt. Once the AAC dust settles.

Honestly, CUSA could lose any combination of 1-4 schools to the AAC. Let’s go with the rumors: UAB, UTSA, FAU - all markets.

It’s not hard to imagine a world where CUSA can pull in App State, ULL, and Arkansas State.

West:
UTEP
UNT
ULL
LA Tech
Rice
Southern Miss
Arkansas State

East:
App State
Old Dominion
Marshall
WKU
MTSU
Charlotte
FIU

The money in CUSA is still better, and we play on Saturdays. On the football and basketball side, I think the conference would be an upgrade.

The bad part is that we’re still working against the mouse.
UAB makes sense to AAC.

Rice, UTSA and FAU makes zero sense at all with their middle school basketball gyms. Didnt we go through this prior with the markets and we see how this works?
