I honestly think we lose some defense with Sam...

But surely we gain some offense.

Still think a sophmore Cisse is much better than a freshman Sam.

But Freshman Cisse...Not sure there will be a huge difference in production vs. Freshman Sam. Just will come in different areas.

Cisse is going to blow up or come very close to blowing up this year. The only thing holding him back will be if he continues to be horrible at free throws.

I think you'll get more scoring and rebounding from Sam with a slight drop-off in the rim protection.
Sam often, once he gets the ball, refrains from dribbling it. That is encouraging — the sign of a smart player who has been well coached. He will definitely play and contribute as a freshman. And SA might end up having to start. It so, let's wish him well.

Thats a liability, you can't keep him on the court in close games.

I'm not ready to think that. A lot of Cisse's scoring came from opportunities that he created because of his quickness and athleticism. Sam isn't as quick, but maybe he will be a little better around the rim when he gets the ball in the post.

Hopefully he handles the ball better and hits a better FT %

If he can catch a bounce pass it will be an improvement.

Pass it up high and let him go get it. Sam looks a little more aware on the court than Cisse. I’m not saying he’s the next Olajuwon but I like the “I dunk everything” mentality he seems to have.

Footwork looks raw...But at least he looks coordinated and understands the mechanics of shooting the ball.

Towards the end of next season if in the last 6 minutes of a game Sam is in then we did OK. Not saying he has higher upside than Cisse but having a true big man on the court in the end of the game sure can help out in most sets.
I just do not see what you all are seeing that makes you believe Sam will be better offensively than Cisse. Again, I am not down on Sam, just realistically he looks very raw offensively and certainly not significantly more advanced than Cisse. If he scores 6 ppg as a freshman I would be very surprised. He certainly has the frame and coordination to develop into a good player but it is probably his junior year before that really happens. If he can come in and rebound and defend as a freshman then he will really be fulfilling the role we need from him.

Are you saying he can hit FTs (at least as Memphis hits FTs)? Because he won't be on the court late if he can't.

That's a really big "only thing holding him back" statement. He should've been awarded a point when he hit the rim. That's not going to change from March 'til November.

You don't bounce pass to a big. Period. That was a big problem this year. It's why we didn't get the most out of Cisse. In HS, his teammates got the ball to him high. For some stupid reason, his college teammates were throwing the ball at his feet and in his belly.

His teammates did do that oftentimes. I'm not sure why. If he has teammates at Florida St that understand this one concept, Moussa will do much better much much better right away.
Probably the main question about whether or not we need another big is “How good is Sam?” I see both sides of the argument about him. Typically, a 3/4 star traditional center takes some time to adjust to D1 ball. OTOH, his skill set looks very similar to Moussa’s.

Im with you.. but I also dont see the "potential" people swear Cisse has either. Kid couldn't catch at all (chest passes, bounce pass, pocket pass, nothing), didnt even understand how to square up to jump through contact, had awful touch, poor defensive instincts AND some of the worst footwork ive ever seen at the D1 level. He just has zero natural aptitude for the game.
