Gotta fix that o-line somehow. Could wheel out some major appliances from
Sears and they would afford better protection than these guys.

Honestly they don't need to have the #1 pick. Lawrence is an all time prospect but Justin Fields and the North Dakota State guys are top 5 picks too. But on the other side most bad teams have drafted QBs in the last 3 years. Not likely to be a ton of demand.

Start a bidding war. Who needs a Trevor Lawrence QB and what Lineman and draft choices will you offer.? A team that finishes #6 but needs a QB may not be able to get any of the three unless they pay up.

Also, trade AJ for as high of a draft pick as you can get now.
I remember a few on here trying to tell me the line wasn't actually an issue for Dalton and pointed to the fact that he wasn't getting sacked or pressured at a particularly high rate. However, it was pretty obvious how horrid the line was and the only thing that protected Dalton was he was one of the best in the league at reading a defense and getting the ball out quickly. Dalton hid some issues on an abysmal offensive line.

Burrow is a stud. He's going to be incredible, but he's a rookie who isn't going to get the ball out as consistently quick as Dalton managed. He's paying a price for the organization doing a terrible job putting together an offensive line.
Really feel sorry for Burrow. Yes, I know the incredible income, but the beating he is taking may have lasting consequences. Must be very tough on his parents watching him get beat up. The roughing the passer penalty hit was brutal.
For that talk about the #1 pick... We'd be the 8th overall pick if the season ended today. In fact, I'm willing to say that the additions in our secondary, improved play from the young linebackers, a better Dline, and Joe Burrow will probably be enough to win us a few games this year. I would be really surprised if we end up worse than the Jets or Giants. The priority now is to pretty much try not to F up the first pick again and sign some warm bodies on the Line while we wait foe rhe young guys to catch up

It's great that the Bengals spent money improving the defense... but again, we've got undrafted and 7th round guys protecting the crown jewel of our franchise. Absolutely inexcusable.
With all the talk about Burrow and his lack of protection, i haven't heard much about Jonah Williams. How is he doing?

He’s going to get broken in half before the end of the year.

On a decent Offensive Line we'd spend most of our time talking about how Jonah has shown flashes of potential but is experiencing 1st-year struggles. Instead, he's one of the more "certain" things we have out there. Not hearing about him is generally a good thing.

Coming into week 3 I saw some discussion about the PFF rankings (I don't have a subscription to get all the details) and my recollection is the Bengals OL as a whole wasn't ranked quite as bad as they looked to most of us - maybe 23rd-25th in the NFL as a unit. No individual on the OL actually qualified as good, but they were largely OK with the exception of RG which has been simply awful. I wanna say that Jonah and even Hart were roughly average (each somewhere between 29-35 out of 60+ I vaguely recall) starting tackles. I suspect the Philly results will be more of the same if not worse across the board.

Not that he's a star but the loss of Xavier Su'a-Filo has just crushed them. I don't say that as an excuse - injuries are always a part of the NFL and everyone knows you need quality depth and the Bengals have failed miserably at having RG depth. Fixing it is obviously going to be very difficult at this point, especially until Xavier gets back. One interesting idea I just read about here was trading for ex-Bengal Kevin Zeitler. He's on the NYG and they seem to be in tank mode.

Good article on all this from SI:

The Bengals need to protect Joe Burrow by aggressively addressing their biggest weakness

Unfortunately, I think that ship has sailed. He looks old out there. I think father time/injuries have finally caught up to him. Too bad too because he's been a class act his entire time with the team. Maybe a team like the patriots would give a 6th rounder for him.
The one thing all of Cincinnati can agree on is this O Line is trash and it's criminal that they're allowing Burrow's head to get bashed in. He will be the next Andrew Luck, retiring before age 30 because of the early career beatings.

Not only did this staff, Taylor, Tobin etc, run out Bobby Hart last year - They doubled down this year and showed their faith in him! Fred Johnson, Bobby Hart and Billy Price are the 3 stooges on the right side of that line.
Trade draft picks, Ross, Green- whoever the hell you need to, to improve this line. It's clear Burrow and Boyd have a great connection. Burrow is a player that can elevate his receivers and throw them open, but until he has time it doesn't matter who he's throwing it to.

There are so many bad teams out there, Bengals could win 2-3 games and still not get a top 5 pick.
Most of the NFL won’t waste the time picking up the phone to call the Bengals.

Not going back through the last few pages to see if it was mentioned, but in addition to Burrow -> Boyd, goodness Higgins look promising in his first real test. This team is still far off in a lot of spots, but at the same time there's a few quality cornerstones to build around - namely Burrow, Boyd, Higgins, Mixon, Jonah, Reader, and I'll throw Hubbard in there too.
I just don't understand the logic of giving AJ Green the franchise tag, then drafting Higgins. That's $18 million that could have been spent on the offensive line. Or, if they were stuck on keeping Green around, use that 2nd round pick on an offensive lineman. Just poor roster management.
And yeah, I think Higgins is going to be really good. We should have let AJ go and put the money into the offensive line.

Thanks for the link Bearhawkeye. Wasted a bunch of draft equity on misses up and down the line over the past couple of seasons. No depth, no serviceable starters and we are trying to protect a Franchise QB with an OL held together by duct tape. Brutal.

i'll have to pay attention to him the next times they play Baltimore. He's a top 5 pick. He needs to be a cornerstone for the future.
