The 2018 schedule I assume should be released some time soon. It was released on Dec. 14th a year ago.

Coach LaPorte is of course taking over this season. She has some strong team leaders to help her transition including 5 seniors. I expect good things in Year 2 for Odicci Alexander. While some freshmen hit a wall their first year, CC actually got stronger in the circle as the season progressed last spring.

There's one player that is very intriguing. This kid named Good. I think if she really works hard in practices and scrimmages, she might get a chance to pitch some this upcoming spring. 03-thumbsup
2018 Freshman Recruits

A look at the some of the freshman for the 2018 season. Looks like some great pitching talent coming in to replace Good. Sara Jubs looks like she's going to be a huge offensive asset for the team.
Glad softball can fill the void left by winter sports. It is actually fun to watch softball in my opinion. Quick fast paced and entertaining. Shame we lost that all American pitcher.
Digging around for some scheduling tidbits in anticipation of the JMU schedule release hopefully soon, I've found the following so far...

*Travel to Jacksonville (FL) Dolphins' Green & Gold Classic Feb. 23-25...some teams who will be there include Central Florida (vs JMU, F-24, 12pm), Jacksonville (vs JMU, F-24, 5pm), Western Carolina & Penn State

*Dukes are traveling to Honolulu, Hawaii, for an early-season tournament...in fact, looks like it will be a week out there...scheduled to face Longwood on March 3, Saturday, at 8pmET, and then again on March 8, Thursday, at 9pmET per Longwood's official schedule...I'm seeing Hawaii, Cal, BYU, and EZU also on Longwood's schedule out there

*Dukes will host UNCheat, Apr. 11, Wed., at 5pm

*We host the JMU Invitational weekend of March 16-17...
vs. Stony Brook on Friday, March 16, at 2pm
vs. Ohio U. on Friday at 4pm
vs. Stony Brook on Saturday at 11:30am or 2pm
vs. Ohio U. on Saturday at 11:30am or 2pm
The other team participating is EZU, but we don't play one another

*Host Towson March 24-25

*Travel to Charleston April 14-15

*Travel to Elon April 21-22

NCAA Tournament perhaps. Auburn's schedule has been released and we're not on it.
Apparently Megan Good needs knee surgery and will be redshirting this season 03-banghead

Wow if that is true it is really upsetting. I'm glad we have football because from my POV everything else seems to be eroding. It wasn't too long ago that our WBB team was at least in a national conversation, our Men's BB team was in the NCAA play in game, and our Softball team was a contender.

Now it feels like the sky is falling on every watched sport but football. MBB lost their coach and hired from within and is currently disappointing, WBB lost their coach, and hired from within and appears good but not great, Softball lost their coach, and hired from within and now lost their star player and could be on track for an average season. If we didn't just have the MCMH hire and run it would be a bleak looking landscape it seems.
If true, wouldn't this setup for a transfer? Maybe to a P5, I can't think of one that she would have any relationships with though.....
lol sky is falling. come on man

Lots of assumptions there. Who can confirm that Megan has had (or is going to have) knee surgery. The link to the other board makes reference to "another" knee surgery too, and that's news to me.

Hopefully someone close to the program can lend clarity to what's going on. I would be shocked if Megan transferred tho...she seems really happy at JMU and was ready to take JMU to its first Softball World Series.

After seeing her yesterday on campus (walking normally) this is new info.... judging from what I saw, you wouldn’t guess it’s a serious injury, as she didn’t have a brace or crutches.
Fake news on the injury?

That would be painful if she moved to the SEC.

Have to believe that would be a real possibility.
You know you’re big time when people make up crazy rumors about you. Big compliment to both Good and the program. Excited for the season to start. Go Dukes!

I was only kidding, though I'd imagine Dickey Mean would be happy with it.
Kinda off topic a bit but the wife and I were at UNCW yesterday for the WBB and we were somewhat early so we wandered around a bit before the gates opened. Heard some noise of balls hitting gloves and bats and wandered over to the UNCW softball facility. The UNCW team was practicing and we both noticed some construction going on around the park. Spoke to a Seahawks fan and he said that they had just recently renovated the whole place over the last year and a half or so. Very nice looking facility there. Think the Dukes place (in particular the playing surface) is a bit nicer but UNCW has built themselves a very nice park for their softball team.

If you haven’t watched the JMU softball ceremonial signing of a LOI by the 8 year old fighting Leukemia you should. No matter what happens on the field this season that was awesome. I am proud of my school, but this took it to another level.

Terrific. Got my day off to a great start. Kudos to the team and congrats to McKenzie and her family.
