Only 2 of Nevada's 5 runs are earned. Ugh.

we might see more errors this year, simply because the defense is going to be tested more. they didn't always have to do much when Good pitched since she would just get the strikeout.

... And as i type that, they commit another error, 7-6 NV now 03-banghead
Tied 7-7. Marcus Marshall on an 82 yd TD run. Ratke with the XP. Trott's defense needs to step up now.

Wait.

What's that?

Nevermind.
Dukes win 8-7
We win, 8-7.
Freshman pitcher Buresch was stellar in relief, pitching 4.1 innings, 0 earned runs, 3 hits (all singles), 1 walk. Alexander had a rough night on the mound and at the plate (0-3).
I haven't been paying attention - is Buresh the other starter in the two-headed rotation?
LBSU beat LA Tech last night 2-1. LBSU was supposed to be the "worst" team of this field. So far, JMU 1-0, LBSU 1-0, Nevada 1-1, LA Tech 0-2.

I'm not sure we know that yet, but of the 3 FR pitchers Buresch was the first out of the pen to relieve Odicci. It's telling that when Odicci got in trouble in the 2nd inning, we turned to this kid who actually did an outstanding job against a pretty good O in Nevada. What's also interesting is at least 1 other FR is starting.

As for Alexander, 3 of the 6 she gave up were unearned. Was following on live stats, so you can't tell whether that's routine balls being botched or if she was getting hit hard and the errors were forced. On the short track softball fields, you can't give up bullets on the IF and expect everything to get played all the time.

We do have some pretty good hitters, though.
Morgan Tolle is on pace to drive in 180 runs this season. Pretty good production from the lead-off spot if you ask me.

03-thumbsup

I think you're referring to Jessica McCabe. I guess we'll find out today.
Article on JMURivals from Walfish talks about this years team. LaPorte mentioned how she was impressed with the Freshman class and expected them to be able to contribute right away. Well we saw truth to that last night.
Also based on the article and last night, I would say Buresh is our #2. She seems like the real deal.
Per article:
"The leading freshman candidate to earn some starts this season is Payton Buresch, who is the only one of JMU’s three first-year hurlers to be listed solely as a pitcher on the roster. After Buresch signed her National Letter of Intent in November 2016, Dean called the Chicago native “a power pitcher” as she compiled a 48-3 record in high school with more than 400 strikeouts."

Would be great if she developed into that pitcher, if we can get back to that status of 2 All-American type pitchers next year we could be looking at another Super Regional

Kierstin Roadcap had her first home run yesterday to tie the game at 6-6. Hopefully only the first of many homers for her this year.

She’s on pace to hit over 60 this season.

(Ok ok I’ll stop now)

We're on pace for a perfect season which also means national champions.

That’s good for LaPorte’s future. Lose a game equals termination. I’m a wacky JMU Softball fan that expects perfection. No pressure.

That would make her family and me very happy!!
GAME ON!

0-0 tie vs Long Beach St. top 2nd, LBSU batting, CC pitching
Still 0-0 after 3. Video is pretty primitive. Any ball hit into the outfield and you lose sight of the ball.
