South Carolina fans I heard your AD said the 2020-2021 home and home were still a go. Is this correct? When does the SEC release the schedules for those yeas?

Serious question: if the SEC were to be able to pick any school in North Carolina, why should the conference choose East Carolina over each of: North Carolina, North Carolina St, Duke, and Wake Forest?

I can come up with 2:
1. ECU wouldn't have a huge exit fee to overcome
2. ECU would probably agree to some ridiculous, half revenue share for the first ten years, agreement

Valid points - anything other than immediate economic reasons? Long-term value over NC/NCSU/DUKE/WAKE? Short-term and long-term competitiveness in football, basketball, or third-sports? Seriously asking.

I'm not going to pretend that anyone would be added for non-economic reasons. That said, we're already competitive against the in-state football teams (won last 2 against Chapel Hill and last 3 against NC State), with half the athletic budget of those teams. With a half-SEC share of revenue, and the recruits that come with membership, we would consistently be the best (and likely most watched) team in the state within 5 years.

Thank you but that wasn’t exactly what I said. Maybe I wasn’t clear - the immediate economic reasons (no huge edit fee and willingness to take a small share for a few years) can’t be all. I also said long-term value which I intended to mean was how will ECU bring value to the SEC that would make them worth the add? Sincere question

Actually, I don't think it's crazy to say that ECU would add long term value to the SEC.
The trouble is that it's not that cut and dry. There are a host of political questions that would surround a move like that.
1. We have to be honest and say that the SEC would prefer either North Carolina or NC State...brand value and economics. As long as that option remains a possibility then it behooves the SEC to wait on ECU.
2. The state of NC is a pretty good size, but it's not as huge as TX or FL either. The networks have limited upside from adding another Power level school to the mix using NC as a a home market. As it stands, Wake Forest isn't worth what they're being paid.
3. The value of ECU in and of itself is not assured. The football attendance numbers are impressive quite frankly. Getting that many people to show up consistently for that schedule when in direct competition with 4 other Power schools in your state is nothing to sneeze at. It speaks to the loyalty of that community to the school. With that said, ECU is still not a flagship level institution and, when push comes to shove, will not have all the advantages that a standard flagship will have. That's partly an academic issue although ECU is ranked nationally which gives them an advantage over most G5s. It's also partly a penetration and branding issue as UNC and NC State would have an immediate leg up should they decide to invest more heavily in athletic success. In short, I think a key factor in ECU's ability to garner a nice fan base is the fact that the other NC schools have fallen down on the job.
4. Should the SEC take ECU and another NC school become available then what sort of bind might that put the SEC in? Would we be asked to take another or perhaps be asked to take the whole Research Triangle?
These are just my thoughts, but I think all of these are contingencies we have to keep in mind.

If UNC were available without a huge financial hurdle, then that would open up the door for Clemson, Florida State, VT, Miami, Louisville, GT, who would all be more favorable gets than UNC.
