NC State Discussion
Watched them get beat by EZU. They are very athletic and have a strong running back. They have large Dbacks and WR. Looks like another tough game for the Monarchs. We will need a healthy set of running backs to control the clock and hopefully limit their possessions. This game overall is about the same as the App. State game.

The bubble screen will not work. I didn't watch the whole game but I saw EZU run 3 all were for losses.

Yep they have big Dbacks and the EZU receivers could not sustain blocks.

Hoping for a win, but expecting a loss. Make it respectable, don't have any injuries and then go win the next three in a row.

It will be hard to compete with these guys. What is the line on this game? I would think 30.

We lost by 24 at home last year. We are better, they are worse. Makes sense than line is 22

RE: NC State Discussion
Lots of disgruntled Wolfpackers after yesterday, "fire the coach and first the D coordinator" stuff on their message boards. May be a bit more subdued crowd for the game this Saturday than usual, not only because of the loss yesterday, but fans are excited about upcoming home games with Notre Dame, Fla. State and Miami, and are indifferent about playing another lower level team in ODU.

RE: NC State Discussion
I think that overall the Wolfpack plays at about the same level as App.

The NC State up tempo spread offense is very balanced between the run and the pass, behind a stout offensive line that averages 300 lbs.
Tall Boise State transfer Ryan Finney is at QB, who is both efficient and takes care of the ball. He spreads it out between three receivers but also likes to throw to the RBs out of the backfield.
They have a smallish but good RB in Matthew Dayes, who does most of the rushing. They do have a TE who blocks and will rush from an option set.

The Wolfpack 4-3 defense is very stout against the run, with a massive DL that averages almost 300 lbs. Good vs the run, not so with the pass rush. They did not record any sacks vs W&M or ECU
So far they have not been as good against the pass. DBs average around 6'

The Wolfpack special teams are not great with an untested soph PK who wasn't good last year

We will likely not be able to run it up the gut against them; at all. Hopefully we can dink and dunk the passes down the field with an occasional long play.

We will not, I repeat NOT, get anywhere with an inside handoff on third and long. We might as well pooch kick instead.

All in all I think that NC State will move the ball better than App, but we should be able to pass on them better, maybe much better, than we did on App.
The NC State 'equal opportunity' spread will be a challenge for our defense.

Nice synopsis. Their inability to put any pressure on the ECU QB was a big factor in the loss. Hopefully, DW will have more time to throw and hopefully Zach Paschall will have a much better game than he did against App.

RE: NC State Discussion
I predicted a 45-21 loss because of the offense that the 'Pack will bring. It is better and more versatile than that of App. They can get so many people the ball, and they are very up tempo.

We may be able to score more than 21, especially if the defense gets some stops.

Because of the lack of pressure NC State puts on the passer, This might be as good a time to play SB as we get all season.

EDIT:
The good news is that App is likely the best defense we will see all season.
The bad news is that the Wolfpack offense is likely (still unsure about WKU) the best we will see all season.

And how did the SB experiment work out against State last year. Sorry, brother Washington gives us our best chance to have success.

He needs to earn it. He had a chance to impress in the Hampton game and didnt. Experiment if we have a sizeable lead late in games.

I don't think it is time to bench David just yet, but he needs to play better than he did vs. App State. He was adequate vs. Hampton, but put in a poor performance vs. ASU. He's still very inexperienced at QB despite being a senior so I can see giving him some time. He makes some throws very few in our conference can make, but also shows very little pocket awareness and shaky accuracy at times.

I don't mean to bench DW.
I just think that since Wilder mentioned that all three QBs would get playing time, this might be the best game fit of the year for SB.
Maybe I am over-reacting, but I am concerned about our QB situation this year, and for the next two as well.

Most seem to be section 9. That's where we will be.
