HC Short List
I hope Tubs mans up and decides to step aside like Spurrier. Otherwise, I'd ask him to step aside if I'm Bohn.

That being said, who ya got on your short list for a new leader of the Cats?

I'll go with Matt Campbell at Toledo. He owns a 31-13 record in 4+ seasons at UT. Currently ranked #22. He is 35 years old and from Massillon. Played at Mt. Union in Alliance.

Moot question... Coach Tuberville isn't going anywhere and we can't afford to buy him out.

I just hope they send him to a nice taxidermist so he doesn't begin to smell during the early season games in the heat.

We can't afford to pay 1 million dollars to fire a coach?

He still has 2 years and over $4M in guaranteed compensation on his contract. He is going nowhere.

Ten years ago we paid $3 million to make a basketball coach go away. Not arguing it's time to go but money won't be the reason he stays or goes.

Campbell will go to Purdue, or Illinois, maybe VaTech or Maryland.

RE: HC Short List
With our current conference compensation there is simply no way we pay $4M+ to fire a coach, then pay out millions to another one. Tuberville is the coach unless he gets into a dead girl/live boy situation.

RE: HC Short List
I posted his contract a few weeks ago. If we can Tubs this year the buyout is 2.4m. Next year it is 1m. His contract expires after that. The other thing to consider is if we get someone else's coach we would have to pay their buyout too.

Really it all comes down to what the Lindner's, Sheakley's, Barrett's, etc. think and are willing to tolerate and spend.

He's not going anywhere on his own until he collects every single dime under this initial 5 year deal.

My guess is Bohn will announce an extension before NSD in February.

Not saying you're wrong, but with how long Tuberville has been coaching, I'd have to think he isn't very concerned about financial stability.

Purdue and Illinois are wastelands. The only reason you go to either of those places is B1G $$$$. The only reason Maryland is attractive is UA $$$$.

Virginia Tech??? I know there has been talk about getting Beamer out of there, but he's going to be difficult to move out until he is ready as long as he has been there.

This will be a tell, whether Tubbs is long term. If memory serves me right, most of Micks 2007 talent issues were due to Huggins inability to recruit. Huggins could not recruit because the school was not going to offer a contract. Recruits will not sign unless they know the coach. I assume it works the same in football.

Speaking of which, I think UC is going to have to either extend or cut bait with Tubs next year regardless. If his contract is in in limbo the last year he will not be able recruit well due to the uncertainty.

What do we know about D.J. Durkin?

1. Young
2. In charge of a very strong defense at Michigan
3. Was born in Ohio and played at BGSU, so he's relatively local
4. Was named Rivals' Recruiter of the Year in 2012
5. Is undefeated as a P5 HC (after one interim bowl game at Florida 04-cheers)

Currently making $800,000. We could triple that with what we're paying now. What else do we know about him? Positives/negatives? Seems like an interesting prospect to me.

RE: HC Short List
Call me crazy, but I'd give a look at Doug Rosfeld. I know he has a loooong way to go before being qualified for the job, but:

-He's the type of guy that players want to play for.
-He's the type of guy parents will want their kids to play for
-He's a local guy that played for the university
-at the very least, he does have experience coaching two state championship offensive lines
- Could recruit Moeller/GCL/Cincinnati exceptionally well

As a disclaimer: this will never happen. But it is, essentially, the type of model that I want out of a head coach right now.

Good pick he is a DC, but he likes having a pro style offense.
