If we are not willing to play Charlotte and App State on the road, then there's no way in hell that we should argue that hosting NCSU and Chapel Hill in Greenville is good for all of North Carolina.
We can play App only in Greenville until they get to at least 35K seats; then we can do home-and-homes. We can play Charlotte home-and-home now... just not at Richardson stadium until they expand to at least 35K.
I agree.

One more thing: I would like to see us play two "area" schools per year. We could play App and UNC one year and Charlotte and NCSU the next. If we are able to round out our schedules with VPI, BYU, South Carolina and others (namely UVA and WVU... maybe throw in Maryland, Army, Georgia Tech/Georgia and Marshall) I would be thrilled.

Appalachian and Charlotte should start a yearly matchup. Could grow into a great rivalry and fill Panther Stadium. Win/Win for everyone involved.

They definitely have a good fan following, but The exposure we would get in Charlotte would be a 100 times better than that in Boone.
Yes but I would rather visit Boone than Charlotte any day of the week. Love that area of North Carolina.

Not sure they could fill BOA at the ticket prices we pay. I had to purchases tickets to the last USC game from BOA office (my work schedule changed that allowed us to go) and our family of four in the upper deck was slightly over $300.00. I doubt they have 70,000+ between the two that will cough up that much money for one game. Could be wrong it has happened once or twice.

RE: ECU Fans....
Well I am pretty indifferent but I think we need to play at least 3 P5 schools per year and maybe 4. As long as Charlotte doesn't interfere with that, I don't think it would hurt anything.
That said, if we don't have a presence in Charlotte after playing at the Panthers stadium 5 times, being in a league with Charlotte for almost a decade, and even playing a basketball game against App St in the Bobcats arena then we never will.
96 vs NCSU Win
99 vs WVU Win
04 vs NCSU Loss
08 vs VT Win
11 vs South Carolina Loss

RE: ECU Fans....
The 3-4 big name schools per year was to supplement our weak C-USA conference schedule.
Obviously, the American is performing closer to the C-USA level than the old Big East level right now, but if the conference uses it's exposure and resources edge to out-recruit the other conferences battling for the shared access spot, the strength of our conference schedule should increase significantly. Once that happens, the need for big names would drop. How long will that take? 3-4 seasons should do it, but of course that's just a guess.

I'm sorry man. But UNCC doesn't get as much space in the Observer as the ACC does. They just don't. Explain to me, then, the situation on the College Football page of the Observer right now. What's on the page now, for the most part, is what's hitting press tomorrow morning. I just don't understand...I read the damn paper every morning and you're wrong. Just accept it. I'm not even speaking about ECU right now.
Dude, I get the Observer everyday. I am not wrong. Not sure why you are pretending otherwise.

No idea if it is true or not as I don't look at the news and disturber regularly, but he is saying as a single school UNCC gets more press coverage from that newspaper than any single ACC school. Not the ACC as a whole.
Exactly. Thank you and this is NOT even debateable.

Yes, that is the ONLY reason (C-USA followed explicit orders from ECU to let us in and gave ECU veto powers to keep us out if you wanted to ) and you forget that Charlotte (Charter member of C-USA) helped get ECU in to C-USA the first time----into what was a strong Basketball FIRST league at the time. You clearly severely underestimate our football. You specifically infact said many times we were stuck with you, and well that didn't happen did it?
Think what you want but we had a lot of power in CUSA. Holland chaired several committees and was in Banowski's ear on many topics from scheduling to travel partners etc and was a mover an shaker. They adopted several of his scheduling ideas. He wanted you App and ODU for some reason I'll never fully understand and disagree with and certainly was a major player getting you in. Just look at the ODU AD's quotes from then.
Regardless it doesn't matter now and you'll probably never find another friend at ECU. Infact I think his support is some of what did Holland in in the end from what I heard. Our new AD's not impressed me much but I doubt you'll ever see him support you to the AAC and likely has explicit rules to block the hell out of it, so good luck ever getting in a conference with us around and at a school thinking you have any leverage on a home and home with 16k fans.

I'm all for playing Charlotte in Charlotte...as long as ECU gets paid more than what our take would be in Greenville. I would say the same amount as what we get in Greenville is ok too, but there are obvious travel expenses that suggest the pay-out should be more. That's where stadium size comes into play. That's the only excuse I'd see as a valid one. If you guys can come up with the money, why not? Heck, even Baylor went to Buffalo.
With that said, having "discussions" doesn't mean a home and home is imminent. I'm pretty sure ECU is open to discuss any topic UNCC wants to...purely out of respect. What comes out of those discussions is an entirely different story. They are not the same thing and, IMO, unwise to assume the former leads to a specific result for the latter.

Wtf? The News and Observer? You've lost your mind if you think that's the case. You've got to be talking about the Charlotte Observer, I might buy that (story, not the paper). RE: ECU Fans....
Pay outs to a visiting team are critical in getting a team to come play you. For example, years ago Duke and Michigan agreed to a four game home and home series. In the first game Duke went to the Big House.
When they got the Mighigan check, Duke realized how much more they made by going to Mighigan rather then having Mighigan come to Durham.
They called Mighigan and agreed to play all four games at Mighigan. Money talks. Better yet, it screams.

We get a lot more coverage in Charlotte than they will ever admit. Hell the years Packer had his #1 radio show there he was a huge friend of the pirates and talked about us all the time and they'd B&M on their board about why they never had any coverage on his show.

No I didn't. You are clearly confusing me with someone else.
So, he had SO MUCH power but for some reason it only got us in and not App (who he wanted according to your words).
Oh golly, what will we do without those ECU handouts. Thanks goodness you guys have let us tag along all these years. :)

No I didn't. You are clearly confusing me with someone else.
So, he had SO MUCH power but for some reason it only got us in and not App (who he wanted according to your words).
ECU wanted App, UNCC and ODU obviously we where not going to get all three with the other options out there. We got two and that is what we expected. ODU has a much, much large TV market and we all know that is what drives expansion.
