Also, I wouldn't mind if ENC split from the rest of the state. They dog us as it is, I'm sick of their crap. Bunch of losers talk about how awesome it is to be in the Piedmont and then spend every waking vacation hour trashing the beaches we call home....all while throwing insults to the way of life in the east. I imagine it's how people from ATL treat and talk to the rest of Georgia.
The folks in the rest of Georgia pretty much look at the Atlanta Metropolitan Area as a cancer on the State. That's not so true of Birmingham, Nashville, Jackson, etc. I do think that the Research Triangle and Atlanta share that kind of distinction in common.
This thread is still going?....

True, but as the saying goes, with ATL, Georgia would be Mississippi. There animosity between metro ATL and the rest of the state is IMO artificially manufactured by rural politicians as a way to maintain power.

That is a tangent which is valid. However, the cultures are both distinct, and incompatible. Then there are the issues on the lottery. 7 counties carried it out of 157 (or ever how many Georgia has). There is the use of Lake Lanier and the Chattahoochie where others wishing, and needing to draw from those water sources are locked out, or in the case of the Hooch the water containing raw sewage from Atlanta is too disgusting to utilize recreationally and the main reason bottled water sells so well in Columbus. Drive over the Hooch at the Stateline one night (when they dump) and roll your windows down. The smell of the sewage is unmistakable. No Vandiver Atlanta, their sewage and garbage disposal, their inept water usage, and their corruption within their local politics is a cancer on the rest of the state and many in the other regions would prefer a Mississippi like existence. Mississippi is poor and has bad roads, but the small towns still function fairly well. BTW, Coastal Georgia has a very nice life without Atlanta.

Actually, our county and state roads are some of the best in the country. At least in South MS.04-cheers

Im gonna try and save up enough money to go to Gainesville to see us play Florida next year. I know we will have fans there, probably in the 3-5000 range. Im sorry about the tough loss to start the season against A & M? How much do you think your defense can improve against us since we run a similar offense? We will see how we play tomorrow, but im expecting to play well. If any **** fans want to watch its on ESPN News at 8 pm. We may not have the Stars that A&M has but we have some talented playmakers. WR is our deepest position and we have a senior QB who completed 70% of his passes last year.

Hopefully we do better than that showing against A&M. I have no answers

It'll be a high scoring affair, much like the game in 2011 in Charlotte was I think

The only place I really couldn't take in MS was Pascagoula. The skeeters were large enough to carry off small children.

They do. The aliens landed there once in the 70's according to two drunk fishermen. They haven't been back since. Probably because of the "skeeters".

True. It is an old Navy, shipyard economy town. Totally blue collar... Not a big tourist site.
Well poo. Here's to getting an SEC team in a bowl

Didn't get embarrassed at least. Better luck next time, or in a bowl. Still not a great fit. Try dominating the American first.
ECU killin it right now.
right now, it seems slightly reasonable

I mean, isn't it the SEC's goal to have all top-25 teams be from the SEC?

Guardian, I thought we played pretty tough. Our starting NT has been the difference maker for us on D..stinks he was out. Might have provided the extra push for us but we'll never know. Looking forward, SC looks pretty good and I hope they keep winning. Hopefully they take care of their next three...then we'll draw some comparisons against Auburn.
I think we'd be a great fit. Would give the SEC the North Carolina footprint, and we easily have the closest thing to an SEC atmosphere in NC. We also have a pretty darn good football program, and an up & coming basketball program.
If it will balance the damn schedule, then I'm all for it.

And for all of the talk of staying at 14 until the SEC can find the right pick, two divisions of 7 teams is too damn big. The last time UGA and 'Bama played each other was in '07. That's just way too long of an interval. I was fine with Mizzou being in the East as a stop-gap measure until the SEC expanded again, but it is not an ideal long term alignment. The conference needs to get down to 4 or 5 teams per division to maintain the cohesion the SEC is renowned for.
Just an outsider giving you my $.02.

Here's how I think the SEC should expand: ECU or UNC and Virginia Tech.

SEC WEST
Texas A&M
Arkansas
LSU
Missouri

SEC CENTRAL
Ole Miss
Mississippi St.
Alabama
Auburn

SEC SOUTH
Florida
Georgia
South Carolina
ECU/UNC

SEC NORTH
Virginia Tech
Kentucky
Tennessee
Vanderbilt

With an 8-game schedule, you would play the 3 teams in your division, 1 permanent rival (if needed, a la Auburn-Georgia, Alabama-Tennessee, etc.), and then rotate the other 4 games through the remaining 11 teams in the conference. This way, you would play EVERYONE in the conference at least every 2-3 years.

The SEC championship game would involve the two best division winners. "Best" would be determined by conference record, then with tie breakers of (1) head-to-head results; and (2) then-current CFP Selection Committee rankings.

Add the Military Bowl (v. ACC or American) and Miami Beach Bowl (v. ACC, American, or PAC 12) to the SEC lineup.
Welcome to the board YNot. It is not that there is anything wrong with your proposal as so much as finding the right teams to go to 15 or 16 with. So while many posters on here love ECU, the probability of the Pirates getting the SEC Golden Ticket is slim. Adding ECU would get the SEC into NC, but at the expense of academic perception, which is not a justifiable exchange at this point.

That's precisely why I included UNC as an alternative option to ECU. NC State would also be a more than worthwhile candidate.

It's just my perspective that the SEC would be well-advised to go after the North Carolina and Virginia markets. NC has almost 10 million population and the #24 Charlotte and #25 Raleigh-Durham DMAs (1.154 million and 1.135 million TV households, respectively); and Virginia has over 8 million population and access to the #8 Washington, DC DMA (2.4 million TV households). That's a lot of market to be added to the SEC's direct footprint. And much more than any sort of westward expansion would bring.

And the move, ironically, would likely help SEC teams to play each other more frequently.
